Why a Missed Session Now Shows as Absent

Sessions a student misses are marked Absent automatically instead of being left blank — what that changes, and how to correct a record that's wrong.

When a scheduled session passes and the student was never marked present, Lumion now sets that session to Absent by itself. It used to be left blank, which meant a blank record could mean either "absent" or "nobody got round to marking it" — and someone had to work out which.

What changed

Previously a missed session stayed blank until a person filled it in. School staff and Customer Success Managers had to hunt down those blanks and update them one at a time.

Now the session defaults to Absent once it has passed without the student marked present. No action is needed from you for the record to be correct.

Why this matters

Your records finish themselves. Attendance is complete without a cleanup pass at the end of the week.
Blank no longer means ambiguous. An absence is recorded as an absence.
Anything built on attendance gets more reliable. Reports, hours totals and compliance figures all read from these records.

If the record is wrong

An automatic absence is an ordinary attendance record. If the student was in fact present and simply wasn't marked at the time, correct it the same way you would correct any other attendance entry.

This is worth mentioning to instructors. Marking attendance late is still fine — but the session will show as Absent until they do it, and a student may see that.

Expect your numbers to move

Sessions that used to sit blank now count as absences, so attendance percentages and absence counts can look worse than they did before — not because attendance changed, but because the gaps are now being counted.

If you report attendance to an accrediting body or use it to trigger outreach, take a look at your first month of figures under the new behaviour before comparing them with earlier months.
