How to Play Back a Student Solution
Open an assignment from the Assignments tab.
Open the Heatmap.
Choose a solution to review:
click a Heatmap cell to open a specific problem
or click a student’s name to view all assignment responses
Open the student solution you want to review.
Click the Play button.
The solution will replay step-by-step exactly as the student completed it.
Playback Controls
Use the controls in the bottom-right corner of the solution viewer to:
pause and resume playback
move forward or backward through steps
replay the solution as many times as needed
review work at your own pace
View Lava Hints in Playback
When reviewing a student’s solution, teachers can also see the specific Lava hints the student received while working on the problem.
During Playback, Lava hints appear at the point in the student’s solution process when they were provided. This gives teachers additional context about the support a student received while solving the problem.
Teachers can use this to better understand:
when a student needed additional guidance
which hint was provided
how the student responded after receiving the hint
whether the student was able to continue independently after receiving support
This makes Playback even more useful for understanding not only what a student did, but also what guidance they received along the way.

Playback helps teachers:
better understand student thinking
identify misconceptions and errors
analyze problem-solving strategies
support intervention and reteaching
facilitate classroom discussions around mathematical reasoning
It can also be useful during:
one-on-one conferences
parent meetings
