How Limited Attempts Work

When creating or editing an assignment, teachers can choose how many attempts students are allowed per question.

While working:

  • students can see how many attempts remain

  • the counter updates after each submission

  • students automatically advance after using all attempts

Set Limited Attempts

  1. Create or edit an assignment.

  2. Open the assignment settings.

  3. Select the maximum number of attempts allowed per question.

  4. Save or assign the activity.

The attempt limit will apply automatically throughout the assignment.

Why Teachers Use Limited Attempts

Teachers often use Limited Attempts to:

  • encourage more thoughtful work

  • support assessment integrity

  • reduce answer guessing

  • promote mathematical reasoning and persistence

This feature can be especially useful during:

  • quizzes and assessments

  • independent practice

  • intervention work

  • focused skill review
