šŸ–Øļø Printer/KDS Setup – Back Office

Set up receipt and kitchen printers in the Back Office before assigning them to POS workstations.

šŸ” Overview

This article explains how to configure printers or KDS from the Back Office. You'll define printing groups, assign devices, and control how receipts, kitchen tickets, and reports print.

1ļøāƒ£ Add POS Printers and KDS Devices

Go to:
Settings > Printing > POS Printers & Kitchen Display Screen

From here, you can view, edit, or add devices. Each device must be linked to an IP address and a printing group.

2ļøāƒ£ Create or Edit a Printer

When adding a new device:

  1. Click Add a new Device

  2. Enter a Name for that printer

  3. Select Device type: Printer

  4. Enter the printer’s IP Address and a name

  5. Assign a Printing Group or select All products

  6. Click Save

šŸ’” Tip – When to use "None" as the Printing Group

If a printer is only meant to print customer receipts (for example, a front desk printer) and should not print kitchen tickets, you must assign its Printing Group to "None."

  • This prevents it from printing when placing or sending orders

  • It will only print on-demand receipts like Print Check or Final Bill

This setup is ideal for stations that handle payments but not order preparation.

3ļøāƒ£ Add a Kitchen Display Screen (KDS)

  1. Click Add a new Device

  2. Enter a Name for that printer

  3. Choose Device type: KDS

  4. Enter the device’s IP Address and Screen size

  5. Assign a Printing Group (e.g. Food, Drinks)

4ļøāƒ£ Create and Manage Printing Groups

Go to:
Settings > Printing > Printing Groups

Printing groups let you route specific items (e.g. drinks or food) to specific printers. This is helpful when your setup includes multiple kitchen printers or screens.

To create a group:

  1. Click New Printing Group

  2. Give it a name

  3. Add products and/or remark groups to the group

  4. Click Save & Quit

šŸ’” Tip:

Use the search bar to quickly find specific products or remark groups in large menus. This is especially useful for long item lists.

āž”ļø You can also assign a printing group directly when creating or editing a product under:
Menu > Products > General Information > Printer group

This allows you to quickly route a product to the correct printer without navigating back to the Printing Groups menu.

5ļøāƒ£ Customize Receipt Layout

Go to:
Settings > Printing > Receipt Design

This section controls how printed customer receipts look. You can customize visual layout, branding, and what details appear.

You can:

  • Add text lines to the header or footer

  • Limit product description to a single line for cleaner receipts

  • Hide employee name on receipts

  • Hide free modifiers (e.g. ā€œno onionā€) from receipts

  • Compile identical products into a single line (e.g. ā€œ3Ɨ Coffeeā€)

    • āš ļø Important – MEV Compatibility
The ā€œCompile identical productsā€ option is not available when MEV-WEB is enabled. Revenu QuĆ©bec requires that each item be listed separately on MEV-compliant receipts.

  • Upload a logo in .bmp format (max size: 0.2MB) - png, jpeg or gif.

6ļøāƒ£ Configure Kitchen Ticket Printing

Go to:
Settings > Printing > Kitchen Printing

This section defines how orders appear on kitchen tickets.

Options include:

  • Print Seat Reference – shows the seat number next to each item

  • Compile Order Items – merges identical items on a single line

  • Limit Product Description – trims names to 20 characters for better readability

7ļøāƒ£ Configure POS Report Printing

Go to:
Settings > Printing > POS Reports Printing

There are two tabs to configure:

a. End of Shift (User Reports)

Choose which sections are included in user shift reports (e.g. by category group, category, or revenue center).

b. Global Reading Reports

Choose how global reports print, with breakdowns by role, category group, or revenue center.
