What to expect
A long prompt won't work
This is the most common mistake, and it's worth being direct about: if you paste one long message describing every detail of your dream home, Maket will not use most of it.
Maket isn't a general-purpose chatbot. It builds your plan from a specific set of answers — number of floors, floor area, layout shape, and rooms — and it collects those by asking you one question at a time. Anything in a long message that doesn't map onto one of those answers doesn't get registered, and won't show up in your plan.
So rather than writing everything at once:
Answer each question as it comes.
Save any extra layout requirements for the "any other constraints?" step at the end.
Add finishes, furniture and materials after your plan exists.
You can always check what actually landed. Before generating, Maket shows you a summary of what it captured from the conversation. If a detail you care about isn't in that list, it isn't going to be in your plan.
A few other things to know
Short and specific beats long and exhaustive. When you do describe something in your own words, keep it focused. "Primary bedroom away from the other bedrooms" lands better than a paragraph covering ten things at once.
Layout first, details later. Before generating, you're shaping the layout — which rooms exist and how they relate to each other. Furniture, doors and windows can only be changed once your plan is generated.
Residential homes only. Maket is built for houses, apartment units and condo units — not hotels, offices, retail, parking or institutional buildings.
Expect to iterate. This is AI, and the first result won't always be what you pictured. That's normal. Generate another option, or refine the plan directly on the canvas.
Step 1: Start a new project
Click Generate a new floor plan on the home page.
Follow the prompts in the Maket chat on the left.
Step 2: Answer the questions
Maket asks for a few basics, one at a time:
Number of floors
Floor area
Layout shape — where you define your living space, the position of your front door, and any outdoor spaces or garage
Rooms
💡 Multi-floor plans are available on paid plans. On the free plan you can generate a single floor.
Step 3: Confirm, and add any last constraints
Once Maket has what it needs, it checks whether you're ready:
Yes, please generate — Maket starts right away.
No, I have other layout constraints — describe anything else that matters about the layout, and Maket takes it into account before drafting.
This is the moment for requirements like "the kitchen should open onto the back patio" or "keep the office away from the bedrooms."
⚠️ Constraints at this stage are about layout — which rooms sit where, and what should be near what. Furniture, doors and windows come after generation.
Step 4: While your plan generates
Generation typically takes a few minutes, and multi-floor plans take longer.
Stay on the page while it runs. If you try to navigate away you'll see a warning, and leaving interrupts the process.
Step 5: Review your plan
Your plan appears on the canvas, complete with furniture, and is named automatically from what you asked for — for example "2 beds, 1 bath — 1,195 sqft".
From here you can fine-tune it directly on the canvas, ask Maket to make changes in the chat, or generate a different option.
Editing your plan with the chat
Once your plan exists, you can ask Maket to change it. It handles things like swapping two rooms, flipping or mirroring the layout, removing fixtures, re-laying-out a few rooms, or reorganizing the plan more substantially.
Worth knowing:
Ask for one change at a time. Small, specific requests succeed far more often than a list of them.
Edits take a few seconds.
Keep the plan open. Requests apply to whichever plan is open in the editor.
AI editing is available on paid plans.
Generating another layout
Not happy with the first option? Maket will ask whether you'd like a different option using the same inputs, or want to start again from scratch.
Or you can duplicate the plan to have multiple variations.
Troubleshooting
If your floor plan doesn't finish generating:
Stay on the page while generating — refreshing or navigating away will interrupt the process.
Try starting a fresh project rather than retrying in the same one.
Multi-floor plans may take longer to generate. Give it time before refreshing.
If the issue persists, contact help@maket.ca and we'll look into it.
