How can I split payment for an order across multiple payment methods?

Have a customer that wants to pay $20 in cash and put the rest on the card? Split payment for an order across as many methods as needed.

Orders can be created before they are paid for, such as orders placed online, by phone, on a kiosk or using drawerless POS.

Any order that is not fully paid can have a new payment added, up to the remaining balance of the order.

  • This can be a single payment method applied to the whole order total, or

  • Multiple partial payments that add up to the order total.

One payment method must apply to the "remaining" balance of the order.


Split payment in Admin

If a payment method is selected while creating an order in Admin, it will be applied to the entire order total.

  • To add multiple payments, either leave payment method deselected while creating the order, or view the order after it has been created and delete the existing payment.

  • To make a partial payment, click New Payment and deselect "pay remaining balance," then enter the amount to pay with this method.

  • The amount must follow any rounding setting for the selected payment method (for example, only a round dollar amount can be entered if normal rounding is enabled for cash payments).

  • In this example, a $20 cash payment was applied to this $100 order. A second payment was added using Stronghold integrated bank payment the remainder of the order total ($80).

  • If a mistake is made, payment methods can be deleted.


Split payment at POS

Orders created or checked out at a normal POS station can be paid using multiple payment methods split across the total.

  • For drawerless orders: payment method is not selected and can be added when checking out at normal POS or via Admin.

To split payment for an order at POS, select one of the methods to be used.

  • A "Split" button will appear in the bottom right corner next to the order total and the name of the first selected payment method.

  • Select the second payment method and enter the amount (or select "remaining" to pay the rest of the order).

  • The POS payments screen can be used to add, remove or edit the value of any payment methods being applied to the order. Click "Accept" to apply the currently shown payments to the order.


Split payment for online menu orders

Customers ordering on the Meadow menu are not able to select split payments.

  • For delivery orders: The payment method selected at checkout will be applied to the entire amount of the order.

  • For pickup orders: payment method is not selected and can be added when checking out at normal POS or via Admin.

  • For both pickup and delivery online orders, split payments can be applied to the order via Admin or POS. For delivery, this will require deleting the existing payment applied to the order.


NOTE

One "remaining" payment method must be applied to an order to be fully paid. All other payment methods will need to have a specific value set when added.

To apply split payments, make sure all payment methods are set up under Settings -> Payment Types.
