This article will clarify the pros and cons of 2 different invitation/onboarding methods for Med App.

Benefits of a good onboarding strategy

Successful onboarding requires succinct communication through the right channels at the right time. A good strategy and process will benefit everyone, the hospital and patients, clinicians and admin teams.

Admin Teams

Clinicians

  • Automated tracking & reporting for accreditation requirements.

  • Improved hospital reputation through a positive onboarding experience brings in better candidates.

  • Significantly improved engagement over traditional methods

  • Efficient bulk onboarding - do hundreds of clinicians in a couple clicks.

  • Easily update information on the fly, add new resources and keep clinicians up to date with scheduled announcements.

  • Early, easy access to rotation and hospital info improves wellbeing & performance by reducing pre-rotation anxiety. Know how the place works on day-1.

  • Better access to role specific information means you can get up to speed quickly.

  • Provide direct feedback on information in the app to help out your fellow clinicians.

  • Easy access to phone directories and other practical resources to give you the confidence and time to deliver better patient care.

Method 1: Admin lead onboarding (direct invitations)

Admin teams control who is invited for an efficient, well managed experience. The benefits:

  • Automated tracking & reporting for accreditation and audit requirements

  • Highly engaged channel direct to clinicians with high uptake

  • Standard templates and processes mean a repeatable onboarding strategy

  • Bulk onboarding means you can do hundreds of clinicians at a time

  • Admin controls who has access, one click reminders and automatic cohort creation

Method 2: Clinician lead onboarding (QR code & requests)

Clinicians scan a unique QR code or add their hospital location to request access. The benefits:

  • Easy-to-use QR code for automatic access or one click request approvals

  • QR code posters (in staff rooms etc.) are good way to give access to those who might not have been invited / late starters

A few of the drawbacks:

  • Manual steps are required to provide onboarding information (e.g. mailouts)

  • Admin workflow means needing to approve people over time

  • Clinician’s may wait for access to be approved
