There are three account types to choose from when creating an organizational account within Mediatool; Advertiser, Advertiser Group, and Media Agency. This article will help you understand the differences between each type, focusing on the benefits and implications of different structures.

Advertiser

An Advertiser Account is the only account type where media plans can actually be created. It can stand on its own or be connected to other Media Agencies or Advertiser Groups. It can manage its own setup or be controlled by a parent Advertiser Group.

Advertiser Group

An Advertiser Group (parent) is connected to other Advertiser and Advertiser Group accounts (children), which are classified as subsidiaries. Each connected organization can either have its own individual setup or have its setup controlled by the Advertiser Group (parent).

By centrally controlling the settings for media types, fields, and tags, you can benefit from standardization when it comes to reporting. You'll never have to guess if one of your connected Advertiser accounts matches the other, allowing for easy comparison.

Media Agency

A Media Agency account is connected to other Advertiser and Advertiser Group accounts, which are classified as clients. Each connected organization has its own individual setup, which is not controlled by the agency.

This structure is ideal for agencies with clients who have very different ways of working and want planning sheets to be customized per client.

Summary

Media Agencies and Advertiser Group accounts provide structure to Advertiser accounts in the Mediatool ecosystem. They can be used to control setups, control media inventories, and generate targets and reports for connected advertisers.

Don't let the names fool you, as it's common for media agencies to choose an Advertiser Group structure so that they can have a standardized setup for all of their clients. Advertiser accounts are where the planning actually takes place in what we call the Sheet View.

Lastly, it's important to note that your account structure is not easily altered in the future. Make sure you consult your CSM if you require a clearer understanding of the various options.

Create an Organization

In order to create a new organization click on the Omni-Create Button, which is the large green plus symbol at the top center portion of your screen. If you choose to create an Advertiser account, you'll be provided with the option to connect this Advertiser to a Media Agency or Advertiser Group.

If you choose to connect it to an Advertiser Group you will have the option of allowing the selected group to control all media. Toggle the switch if you'd like to enable this. Leave the switch if you'd like the advertiser to control its own settings.

Delete an Organization

Deleted organizations are not archived. Please speak to your Customer Success Manager and be 100% certain that all data has been exported before deleting your organizational account.

If you wish to delete an organization, go to organization settings and, at the bottom of the list, click delete organization. As an added security measure, you will be prompted to enter text into another field in order to confirm the deletion.
