If your Stripe Account allows you to offer Afterpay and/or Klarna, then you're all set to use these buy now, pay later options with your MemberVault products!
Buy now, pay later (BNPL) options allow your customers to split their purchase into installments rather than paying the full amount upfront. Stripe Checkout supports both Afterpay/Clearpay and Klarna.
Note: These pay later options will only show up for your customers when they select a pay-in-full option. You can offer your own payment plans as options for your members alongside a pay-in-full option, but Klarna and Afterpay will only appear as payment options in Stripe Checkout when your customer selects the one-time payment option.
Check if Afterpay or Klarna is already available
If you've already enabled these payment methods in your Stripe account, you can check whether they're showing up on your MemberVault checkout without making a purchase.
Copy your direct purchase link from the product or offer you're testing, and paste it into a separate tab in your browser.
Enter your name and email, then select "Credit/Debit Card" as your payment option, and click the box to agree to your Terms. *Make sure the payment you select is a one-time payment and not a payment plan.*
Click the Payment button. This will redirect you to your Stripe checkout page.
Under Payment method, look for Klarna and/or Afterpay.
If you see the payment option you'd like to offer, then you're all set!
Keep in mind that Stripe determines which payment methods are available based on factors such as the customer's location, currency, purchase amount, and other eligibility requirements. This means Afterpay or Klarna may not appear for every customer or every purchase.
Don't see Afterpay or Klarna?
If you don't see the payment option you're looking for on your Stripe Checkout screen, you may need to enable it in your Stripe account.
Log into your Stripe Dashboard.
Click the Gear Icon to open your Settings. This is located in the top right corner of your Stripe dashboard, and in the dropdown menu in the top left corner under your Stripe account name.
Under Settings, scroll down to Product Settings > Payments.
Click Payment methods.
Select the Payment configuration connected with your MemberVault account to manage the payment types you offer there. The Payment configuration name can be different for each Stripe account, so this could be named "MemberVault," "Default" or something else.
Scroll down the list of icons and select Klarna and/or Afterpay/Clearpay and follow the prompts to enable it.
Once enabled, Stripe will automatically determine when the payment option should be displayed to an eligible customer during Checkout.
If you don't see the payment method listed, you may need to complete some additional steps with your Stripe account or meet Stripe's eligibility requirements. We recommend checking Stripe's documentation for additional information about accepting Klarna or Afterpay/Clearpay.
A note about subscriptions
Afterpay/Clearpay is not supported for subscription-mode Stripe Checkout sessions. If you're offering a subscription product, Afterpay won't be available as a payment option.
