AI Tags is an automation feature that allows you to apply tags to your mentions automatically based on the mention context. This means you no longer have to go through your mentions to assign different tags manually. AI can do that for you now, so you can focus on more important tasks.
It’s a time-saving addition to Mentionlytics that helps you keep your mentions organized and makes team collaboration effortless.
This feature is available in Pro and higher-tier plans.
How do AI Tags work?
Τo make autotagging possible, our AI algorithms analyze and understand the context of your mention and assign a tag that you have already created (not random things you never wished for) if the mention matches your tag’s description.
We’re not talking about keyword match, though. AI is going beyond this and understands what your mention is really about to provide high tagging accuracy.
By default, AI looks at the tag name to understand what the tag represents. However, if you add a description to a tag, AI will prioritize the description instead of the tag name to decide whether a mention should be tagged. This allows you to guide AI more precisely and improve tagging accuracy, especially when a tag’s meaning can’t be fully expressed by its name alone.
For example, let’s examine this Ryanair mention below.
See the little ✨ next to the tag? This means it is autotagged by AI with the “refund” tag, although the word “refund” is not included in the tweet’s caption, as you may see.
AI understood that “£220 compensation” in combination with the account name “Flight Delay Claim” and the link next to “Claim Now” are strong signals that this post is about a money refund.
So, in this case, AI didn’t scan the caption for “refund”, but it made sense of the context and what the post is truly about, almost like a human would do.
However, you may change the AI Tag or add additional ones manually if you seem fit.
How to enable AI Tags
Before enabling this feature, please note that AI Tags can only be created from already existing manual tags. This means you must first create a tag in the traditional (manual) Tags section before converting it to an AI Tag.
However, you may change an AI Tag or add additional ones manually to your mentions, as you see fit. AI Tags can still be applied manually if you want.
To enable AI Tags, you need to:
Go to “Settings”.
Click on “Automations & Tags”.
Scroll to the Tags section. It is now divided into two parts: the traditional/manual tags and AI Tags.
To create an AI Tag:
Drag an already existing tag from the left side and drop it to the right.
Or just hit the AI icon that appears once you hover over your tags.
Important Note: We recommend adding a short description (50 characters max.) to your already existing tags to help AI better understand the context of the tag to get more accurate tagging results, especially if the name of the tag is not very descriptive of its meaning. To do so, just double-click an existing tag.
Now, when you convert a tag to an AI Tag, you should choose the pool of mentions you want this tag to be automatically assigned to. You need to decide where it’ll be applied from the four options:
All Mentions: Where you can have all your AI Tags that are supposed to be assigned to any mention gathered by Mentionlytics, no matter the tracker they belong to.
Brand Monitoring: Where you can have all your AI Tags that are supposed to be assigned to mentions from your Brand Monitoring trackers.
Competitors: Where you can have all your AI Tags that are supposed to be assigned to mentions from your Competitors trackers.
Marketing Leads: Where you can have all your AI Tags that are supposed to be assigned to mentions from your Marketing Leads trackers.
Important: You can add up to 15 AI Tags to each section.
You may also apply AI Tags to comments of your mentions by clicking this option.
When this option is enabled, you can choose if the AI Tags assigned will be:
From Parent: This means the comment’s tag will be the same as the mention’s AI Tag, even if the context is different.
From AI: This means AI will analyze the context of the comment and assign a different AI Tag to it based on what the comment is about — not the mention.
Why use AI Tags instead of the traditional ones?
AI Tags automatically categorize your mentions the moment they are collected. This eliminates the need to manually review and tag mentions, freeing up time for analysis and action instead of repetitive work.
Also, when mentions are instantly categorized by topic (e.g., refunds, customer support, campaigns, complaints), you can quickly identify patterns and emerging issues without digging through raw data.
As your brand, competitors, or campaigns generate more mentions, manual tagging becomes harder to manage. AI Tags scale automatically, keeping your monitoring efficient no matter the volume of your mentions.
