After you set up your account and start receiving mentions, you'll want to filter them to find exactly what you're looking for.
Important: Results are based on the trackers you've selected. For example, if only Brand Monitoring is turned on, you won't see Competitor or Marketing leads results.
How to Use Filters
At the top of your dashboard, you'll see a filter bar. Click the "Filters" button to see all available options.
You can use one filter or combine multiple filters to narrow down your results.
Good to know: All filters work across the entire platform, in Reports, Top Mentioners, and everywhere else.
👉 For more detailed filtering, use the Advanced filtering options.
Quick Channel Selection
Use the icons at the top to quickly filter by channel (like Twitter, Facebook, etc.).
Click one icon to view that channel only
Click multiple icons (one at a time) to view several channels together
Filter
Filter by channel
From the left to the right, the channels are:
Web
Twitter
Facebook
YouTube
Instagram
Reviews (Google My Business Location)
Other (Reddit, LinkedIn)
Choose which channels you want to see mentions from; social media, forums, blogs, news sites, and more. That way you can focus on the platforms where your brand, your audience, or your competitors are most active.
By default: All channels are included
How to use:
Click a channel name to view only that channel
Check the box next to each channel to view them together
To reset: If you perform any combination of the available channels and need to include all of them again, click "reset filters" or select "All Sources" in the Channel dropdown.
Filter by category
The Category Filter helps you focus on specific types of content, like posts, comments, or news articles.
For example:
Select "News" to see only news articles
Select "All comments" to see only comments (not posts)
Select "Tweets" to see only tweets
Each of the supported sources has a category option for you to choose, in order to view your mentions. By default, you will view every category available.
👉 See full list of cateories: Filtering by Category: Web & Social Media Sources
Tip: Choose a channel first, then select a category. This shows you the relevant categories for that channel.
Filter by relevance
The Relevance Filter helps you prioritize the most impactful mentions.
The system automatically assigns a Relevance level to your mentions based on how relevant it is to your keywords.
By default: Set to "Normal" (shows the most relevant mentions)
To see more results: Select "All" to include mentions that may be less relevant
Filter by sentiment
AI-Based Sentiment Classification analysis is a powerful tool to understand the sentiment behind your brand mentions.
With the Sentiment Filter, you can choose to see your positive, negative, or neutral mentions.
The default option is "Any", and it contains all different sentiments.
How to use:
Positive: See good reviews and comments
Negative: See bad reviews and complaints
Neutral: See neutral mentions
You can also exclude a sentiment if needed
Filter by emotion
AI-Based Emotion Classification analysis is a very helpful tool to understand the emotions behind your brand mentions.
With the Emotion Filter, you can choose to see your mentions based on the emotion they carry; joy, anger, sadness, fear, surprise, and more.
The default option is "Any", and it contains all different emotions.
How to use:
Select an emotion to see only mentions with that feeling
You can also exclude specific emotions
Filter by image
This filter allows you to filter the results based on what appears in images or video thumbnails.
Mentionlytics’ AI algorithm scans all of your mentions containing an image or a video thumbnail, analyzes them, and recognizes elements in them. We call each specific type of visual element an “entity”.
Our AI scans images and identifies:
Your brand's logo (even if it's on a t-shirt or in the background).
Your product (like a specific type of soda bottle or shoe).
A scene (a beach, a concert, a kitchen) or an object (a car, food, a computer).
Then, the system categorizes them based on the entities they contain.
Default image entities: Logo, Object, People, Gesture, Landscape, Location, Event, Date, Text, and Country.
Filter by country
If you work for international brands or analyze global trends, the Country Filter is just the right fit for you.
It allows you to monitor mentions from specific countries, helping you understand regional sentiments, adjust your strategies per region, and identify potential market opportunities.
With the country filter, you can choose a country that you would like to view the results that came from it.
Τhe "Any" option is set by default (so you are seeing mentions from every country.
How to use:
Click to see the country list
Search for a country or scroll to find it
Note: We do not recommend using this filter often. Many social media mentions don't include country information, so most results will show as "unknown." TikTok and Reddit don't support country filtering
The option to include results where the country is unknown is selected by default in the keyword setup settings. You can uncheck this if you prefer stricter filtering through the Keyword settings.
Filter by language
Just as the Country Filter helps you with geographical segmentation, the Language Filter assists with linguistic segmentation.
With it, you can select the languages of the mentions you want to view. It’s invaluable in case you’re targeting multicultural markets, such as the US, or global audiences.
Choose a language to apply and view the mentions of that specific language.
Τhe "Any" option is already applied by the system. So by default, you are seeing mentions from every language.
How to use:
Click to see the language list
Search for a language or scroll to find it
Filter by label
If you add labels to organize your mentions (like "Important" or "Done"), use this filter to find them.
How to use:
Filter any mention with a specific assigned label or create your own (3 custom labels available)
Include or exclude mentions based on a specific label (for example, to see all mentions WITHOUT the label “Done”)
Filter mentions based on whether they have notes on them or not
Filter by tag
Similarly to labels, you can also create and add different tags to your mentions to organize them your way.
So, the Tagged Filter helps you sort your results based on the tags you have created, to see social listening results according to your organization system.
How to use:
filter any mention with a specific assigned Tag ( works with manual and AI tags as well)
Include or exclude mentions with specific tags (for example, to view all mentions WITHOUT the "CEO" tag)
Filter by assigned
If your team assigns mentions to different members, use this filter to see who's handling what.
How to use:
Filter by mentions assigned to a specific person
Include or exclude mentions based on who they're assigned to
Filter by preset
Save your favorite filter combinations for quick access later.
For example, you can create a set of filters with the choices in the image below and save it in the Preset Filter to be ready for you the next time you want to run analyses with those certain criteria.
With the Preset filter, you can filter your mentions with a specific predefined Preset, as a pre-saved set of filters.
How to use:
Set up the filters you use often
Save them as a preset
Next time, just select your preset instead of setting up filters again
