A Keyword is any word or phrase you ask Mentionlytics to track. Once added, our system scans social media, news, blogs, forums, and videos to find every conversation that mentions that specific term.
1. Types of a keyword you can track
You aren't limited to just your brand name. You can track a wide variety of terms to get a full picture of your online presence.
A keyword can be:
Your brand name and common variations (e.g., Example Bank)
Your products or services (e.g., Example Bank Mobile App)
Your Competitors (e.g., Rival Bank)
Industry terms (e.g., online banking, interest rates)
Hashtags (e.g., #ExampleBankRewards)
Marketing leads or campaign names
Personalities, like your CEO, spokespeople, or key influencers
or any other word or phrase that you need to monitor
💡 Pro Tip: You can add single words (like Ryanair) or full phrases (like Ryanair customer service). The more specific the phrase, the more targeted your results will be!
2. Where to find your keyword
You can find and edit your keywords in the Mention Trackers panel on your dashboard.
Look for the Icon: All keywords are marked with a small “A” icon on the left side of the panel.
Whether you are looking at your own Brand Monitoring, a Competitor Tracker, or Marketing Leads, the keyword settings will be located here.
3. Competitor & Marketing Lead keywords
Monitoring a competitor works exactly like monitoring your own brand. To get a fair "apples-to-apples" comparison, we recommend setting up your competitor trackers with the same level of detail as your own.
Mirror the Setup: If you track your brand name + "customer service," do the same for your competitor.
Consistency is Key: Use the same language and country filters for both trackers to ensure your data comparisons are accurate.
Separate Trackers: Keep your brand and your competitors in separate trackers to see clean, side-by-side analytics in your reports.
For example, if you monitor Example Bank in one tracker and Rival Bank in another, both can have:
Keywords
Keyword variations
Additional required or excluded terms
Hashtags
Language/country settings
Your competitor’s tracker can mirror your brand monitoring structure for accuracy.
