How to Customize Heat Map Audit Styles and Colors

Agencies can customize how heat map audits appear in client reports.

Written by Justin Silverman

To customize the audit reports your clients see, go to your White Label Settings tab, then click the edit icon next to the white label you want to customize. From there, open the Reports category. You’ll see a dropdown appear where you can choose the heat map style and customize the ranking color ranges.

Heat Map Style Options

There are 9+ heat map styles available. As you hover over each option, you’ll see a preview of what it looks like before selecting it. Styles include different designs such as:

  • Teardrops

  • Hexagons

  • Stars

  • Ovals

  • Squares

  • Circles

Each style also has its own spacing, padding, and layout differences.

Custom Ranking Colors

You can also customize the colors used for different ranking ranges.

For example, you could set:

  • Ranks 1–3 to use your agency’s primary brand color

  • Ranks 4–10 to use a secondary color

  • Ranks 20+ to show as black instead of the default dark red

This gives you more control over how your client reports look and helps keep them consistent with your agency’s brand.

Warning: These changes only apply to future reports.

Because heat map reports are meant to be compared over time, we strongly recommend choosing your preferred style and color ranges before onboarding new businesses.

For example, if a client’s first report uses stars and you later switch to hexagons, their future reports will use hexigons but their old reports will still appear as stars. That means you may end up comparing a star-based report to a hexagon-based report, which can make the reporting look inconsistent.

Availability

This feature was released on June 8, 2026. It will automatically apply only to businesses onboarded on or after that date. We intentionally did not apply this change to existing clients because we did not want to change agency reports unexpectedly or make assumptions about how agencies want their existing client reports to look.

Updating Existing Clients

If you would like us to move your existing clients from the legacy heat map report style to the new customizable version, please submit this form:

Please allow our development team at least five business days to complete the change.

Note: if you want the ability for your client's reports to have the competitor drill down on each audit pin, but do not want the styles to change because you fear your clients will not like the different styles for the before and afters, you can still request the migration. You must select original as the heat map style in the white label settings. There will be a small noticeable difference between the two, but they are intentionally very similar for this reason.
