Pre-trip and post-trip inspection buffers

Add operational time before and after trips for vehicle prep, inspections, availability, scheduling, and applicable pricing calculations.

Written by Nate

Pre-trip and post-trip inspection buffers let you add operational time before a trip starts and after a trip ends. This helps account for vehicle prep, inspections, cleanup, fueling, parking, or any other time your team needs before or after service.

This feature is available on Pro and VIP plans.

Where to find this setting

Go to Settings → General → Preferences.

In the Pre-trip and post-trip time adjustments section, you can turn on:

  • Pre-trip inspection — adds time before the trip start.

  • Post-trip inspection — adds time after the trip end.

After turning either setting on, enter the number of minutes you want Moovs to add. You can enter between 0 and 120 minutes.

How pre-trip inspection time works

Pre-trip inspection time is added before the trip's operational start time.

For example, if a trip starts at 9:00 AM and you add a 30-minute pre-trip inspection buffer, Moovs treats the vehicle as occupied starting at 8:30 AM.

This helps prevent the vehicle from being assigned to another trip too close to the start of service.

How post-trip inspection time works

Post-trip inspection time is added after the trip's operational end time.

For example, if a trip ends at 12:00 PM and you add a 15-minute post-trip inspection buffer, Moovs treats the vehicle as occupied until 12:15 PM.

This helps account for wrap-up time after the trip is complete.

What this affects in Moovs

Inspection buffers can affect several areas of Moovs:

  • Vehicle availability — vehicles are blocked for the added inspection time before and/or after trips.

  • Scheduling and dispatch views — trip blocks may appear longer so the full operational window is visible.

  • Conflict checks — Moovs uses the expanded timing window when checking if a vehicle is available.

  • Pricing calculations — when pricing is based on time, inspection buffers may be included in the calculated duration.

  • Driver app start time — when trip start times are shown to drivers, the driver may see the earlier start time that includes pre-trip inspection time.

Important notes

  • Inspection buffers are operational timing adjustments. They do not change the customer's scheduled pickup or drop-off time.

  • Changes apply to trips/routes created or saved after the setting is updated.

  • Changing the default inspection buffer does not retroactively update existing trips or routes.

  • If a route already has inspection buffer minutes saved, Moovs uses the saved route-level values for that route.

  • The maximum value for each buffer is 120 minutes.

Example

Your operator has these settings enabled:

  • Pre-trip inspection: 30 minutes

  • Post-trip inspection: 15 minutes

A trip is scheduled from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Moovs will treat the vehicle as occupied from 8:30 AM to 12:15 PM.

The customer still sees the scheduled trip time as 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, but your team has the extra operational buffer built into availability, scheduling, and applicable pricing calculations.
