Quick answer
To test a template change, save the template, open a past session in History, then use Regenerate with the updated template. This creates a new document and does not overwrite the original.
Why use Regenerate for testing?
Regenerate lets you compare template outputs using the same session. This is the fastest way to see whether a template edit improved the note.
Test workflow
Open Templates.
Edit the template.
Click Save Changes.
Open History.
Choose a session that represents the kind of consultation the template should handle.
Click Regenerate or Regenerate Summary.
Select the updated template.
Add Specific Instructions if you want to test a one-off change.
Generate and compare the new output with the previous version.
Do I need to use Optimise with AI every time?
No. You can manually edit a template and test it. Optimise with AI is optional and is best used when you want Motics to improve a rough draft template.
What to compare
Are the right headings present?
Are irrelevant sections omitted?
Is there enough clinical detail?
Are bullet points and paragraphs formatted as expected?
Does the output fit the audience, such as clinician, GP, insurer, or patient?
If the output still is not right
Change one thing at a time. Edit the template wording, regenerate the same session again, and compare. If you change the template, Specific Instructions, and model all at once, it becomes harder to tell which change helped.
