When you upgrade from Moves Base to Moves Plus, you're never paying for both. You get credit for the part of your current Moves Base billing period you haven't used yet, and that comes off the Moves Plus price.
The number you see is calculated live, from your own account, at the moment you look at it — which is why it may not match a figure a friend saw, or one you saw yourself a few days ago.
📱 Looking for your own number? Open the Moves App and go to Profile → Manage Subscription. Your exact upgrade amount is shown there before you confirm anything, along with the date of your next charge.
⚠️ Billed through Apple or Google? This article doesn't apply to you. Moves Plus isn't sold through the App Store or Google Play, so there's no proration on that path — you cancel with Apple or Google, our team moves you across, and you get a flat credit for the month you're already in. See Switching from Apple or Google billing to Moves+.
How the amount is worked out
We check how much of your current Moves Base billing period is left — the rest of your year if you're on annual, the rest of the month if you're on monthly.
You're credited that same share of your most recent Moves Base payment — not everything you've paid so far this year.
You're charged the Moves Plus price for a full year, minus that credit.
Your new Moves Plus year starts today, so your next renewal is 12 months from now.
You're only ever paying for one plan at a time. Nothing overlaps, and nothing is charged twice.
Why the amount goes up the longer you wait
This is the part that surprises most people, because it's the opposite of what "prorated" sounds like.
The credit comes from Moves Base time you haven't used. Every day that passes, there's a little less of it — so the credit shrinks, and the amount due creeps toward the full Moves Plus price rather than away from it.
So the earlier you are in your Moves Base period, the bigger today's credit. And the closer you get to your original renewal date, the closer today's charge gets to the full price.
A change of a dollar or two between two visits is just that calculation updating in real time. Nothing has changed on your account.
Why it might not match a number you saw before September 2026
If you're comparing against a quote you saw before 1 September, you'll see a bigger number now — and both numbers were correct. What changed is not the maths but how much time you're buying.
Before 1 September, upgrading charged you only up to your existing Moves Base renewal date. A shorter stretch, so a smaller amount — and your renewal date stayed where it was.
From 1 September, upgrading starts a full Moves Plus year immediately. You're charged for twelve months instead of a few, credited for your unused Moves Base time exactly as before, and your renewal date moves to a year from the upgrade.
The per-day credit is unchanged. The amount is higher because the period you're buying is longer.
✅ If you upgraded before 1 September, nothing about this changes for you. You keep your original Moves Base renewal date, and your Moves Plus year runs to that date. You don't need to do anything.
If you've used a discount, or you're on an older rate
Your credit is based on what you actually paid for Moves Base — not the standard price.
That's usually the reason an upgrade amount looks higher than someone expects: if a past discount meant you paid less for your Moves Base period, there's less to credit back.
If you used a discount and your upgrade amount doesn't look right to you, email us at support@movesapp.com and we'll look at your account. Your maths is probably fine — the input is specific to you, and we'd rather check it than have you guess.
One thing that doesn't change: your Moves Base price
Moves Base is the same price for everyone, and trying Moves Plus doesn't affect it. If you later downgrade from Moves Plus, you go back to the standard Moves Base price — not a higher one. It isn't something you can lose.
What you would give up by cancelling or downgrading is your Moves Plus rate. That's a separate price on a separate plan — see What is the Moves+ Founding Rate?
