How is sales tax calculated?

We partner with a third-party provider to automatically calculate and apply sales tax based on the zip code of your delivery address, following state tax laws.

Why has sales tax been added to my trade-in?

Sales tax is calculated based on your delivery address zip code. When you first book your trade-in, we don’t have a confirmed delivery address, so the initial quote is pre-tax. Once you confirm your delivery address and settle any remaining balance, the appropriate tax is applied to your trade-in.

Why is sales tax being charged on my return exchange?

If you purchased an item through a trade-in in a state with trade offset rules, we initially calculated tax on the remaining balance after deducting your trade-in value, in line with state tax laws.

When you return the item, we’ll refund the original tax charged on the trade-in. However, because the return isn’t classified as a trade, the trade offset rule doesn’t apply, so the tax on the replacement item will differ from the original calculation.
