Understanding adjustments and next steps

Learn what happens after we inspect your kit - including how to view checked items, accept or decline your quote, and what happens next.

What is a quote adjustment?

MPB adjusts quotes to make sure you get the right value for your kit. Our product specialists carry out a full inspection including testing, cleaning, and checking every part of the item to give you a clear, accurate picture of the kit you've sent.

Adjustments aren't always negative. If your kit is in better condition than expected, we'll increase your quote to reflect that.

Once checks are complete, we'll email you your final quote, which may or may not include an adjustment.

How do I view my adjustments?

Once our product specialist team has finalised your quote, we'll send you an automated email so you can view any adjustments.

You can view adjustments any time by going to My Account > Transactions > View changes to your quote.

What's on the adjustments page?

The adjustments page gives you an overview of your quote, including any upgrades or downgrades to your items, along with the reasons behind them.

Adjustments

Adjustments are changes to your kit’s value. These may be based on usage data, missing or included accessories, or cosmetic condition.

This section also shows a full cost breakdown, so you can see how any increases or decreases affect your final total.

Observations and notes

Anything our team noticed during inspection will be listed here. This could include observations like:

  • Error codes displayed

  • Damage to core components

  • Language setting issues

  • Fungus or moisture

These observations may lower the value of your kit, or in some cases mean we're unable to purchase the item at this time.

Primary & Supporting Images

Once checks are complete, our product specialist team photographs your kit. If you go ahead with the sale, these are the same images used on your item's listing on MPB.

If we find anything significant, such as a fault or cosmetic issue, we’ll take close-up supporting images and add them to your quote.

  • To view the primary images: select the photo in the top-left corner of your adjustment to open it full-size.

  • To view supporting images: select View Inspection Images at the bottom-left of your adjustment.

Fungus and moisture aren't always easy to photograph - in most cases, we identify this using a microscope and flashlight rather than a standard photo, so you may not always see a supporting image if this is made as an observation.

Common Adjustment reasons

Grading difference

We assess the overall condition of your item against our condition guidelines:

  • Like New

  • Excellent

  • Good

  • Well Used

  • Heavily Used

If your item is in better condition than stated, we'll upgrade your quote. If we find any inconsistencies with the condition described, we'll adjust it down to reflect its true condition.

Getting the grading right matters for both the seller and MPB - it's the same grading used when we list the item for resale, so we always aim to reflect the fairest possible value.

Functional Observations

Functional observations cover minor to significant issues with an item. Some may not affect its use; others could mean the item isn't purchasable at this time.

Error Codes

Our Product Specialist team inspects all use cases of each item. There's a large library of error codes that vary from item to item.

Some error codes may directly result in functional issues with the item.

Language Issues

MPB can purchase items from other regions, but the item must support an English setting, or at least a regional language setting.

Items without an English or regional language setting may incur an adjustment.

Faulty Components

Covers faults with components such as the MF/AF switch, LCD, or image stabilisation (IS).

May or may not result in a no-buy adjustment, but can severely impact overall functionality.

Damage to Core Components

Covers damage to core components such as USB ports, hotshoes, the battery compartment, or the focus ring.

May or may not result in a no-buy adjustment, but can severely impact overall functionality.

Sensor Damage

For cameras, the sensor is the most important component. MPB can only purchase items with a fully functioning, clean sensor.

Damaged or dirty sensors will directly result in non-purchase of the item.

Personalisation

Covers personal effects such as painted-over logos, reskins, or personal engravings.

Will impact the quote. Items are inspected and, where applicable, personalisation is removed during checking to ensure GDPR compliance.

User data

During inspection, we may log usage data where relevant to the item - for most cameras this is the shutter count; for video cameras, it's the hour count.

Usage data helps show how much usage an item has had and is considered alongside its condition grading when we finalise your quote.

Moisture/Fungus

Moisture and fungus can seriously affect the value and lifespan of a piece of kit, especially if left untreated.

We can still purchase items affected by moisture or fungus, though this will result in an adjustment. If the fungus has progressed enough to affect image quality, we won't be able to purchase the item at this time.

Please note: MPB doesn't have the facilities to clean or remove moisture or fungus from a lens.

Key Accessories

Every item has a set of key accessories that should be included. Your quote assumes these are included, and you'll need to send them to receive the full quoted amount.

You'll see a full itemised list during the quote-building process, showing which accessories are required and which are optional.

Included Accessories

Original accessories: items usually included when the product was bought new, such as batteries, chargers, or USB cables. Some original accessories won't affect your quote if missing, such as original packaging, neck straps, or instruction manuals.

Third-party accessories: aftermarket items such as third-party batteries, chargers, or camera cages. We may accept these, but it's worth checking when you first build your quote.

We only purchase one battery and one charger per camera. Any additional originals must be quoted separately, and extra third-party batteries or chargers won't be purchased or returned.

Functionality

We test the performance of key accessories like batteries and chargers, to make sure they still hold a good charge and will work well for the next owner.

  • Batteries with poor performance or a high recharge rate may be removed from your quote.

  • Batteries or chargers with visible physical damage may be removed and safely disposed of.

  • Other accessories, such as lens hoods or tripod collars, are also checked to make sure they fit and function correctly.

Model Update

If your item was quoted under the wrong model, we'll correct this once it's inspected which may increase or decrease your quote.

Many products have several versions with different features (like IS or autofocus), so we make sure your final quote reflects the exact model we've received and checked.

Next Steps

Once our product specialist team finishes checking your kit, you'll get a confirmation email with your full, final quote.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I negotiate the price?

MPB's quotes are generated by our Re.Value pricing engine, which uses real-time market data to give you the most accurate valuation we can. Because prices reflect live market conditions, we aren't able to manually adjust quotes to match competitor prices or negotiate individually.

How can I decline my quote or cancel a reserved item?

Reply to your adjustment confirmation email, or contact us with your TX number.

How can I modify my quote?

Reply to your adjustment confirmation email, or contact us with your TX number, if you'd like to add or remove items, or arrange a return.

How long do I have to accept my offer?

MPB reserves the right to take ownership of your kit if there's no contact or response after 3 months. We'll send you reminders before this happens.

My adjusted quote says an item was declined because it's not functional. Can I still sell it to you?

If we can't purchase an item because it's broken or not fully functional, you're welcome to have it returned, repair it, and set up a new quote with us in future.

Why was my quote adjusted for an item I originally purchased from MPB?

If the item had an observation or price adjustment when you bought it from us, we may need to apply the same adjustment when you sell it back.

I can't find my adjustment confirmation email - where can I find it?

Check your spam or junk folder first. If you have an MPB account, you can also view ongoing quotes and updates on your Transactions page.

I've received an adjustment for a bound drone - can I unbind it?

Yes. Contact our team to unbind your drone account and update your adjustment. Please don't accept the adjustment before this is resolved.
