Your weight can change from day to day for many normal reasons, such as water retention, salt intake, hormones, digestion, sleep, stress, workouts, or the time of day you weigh yourself. These short term changes do not necessarily mean that you have gained or lost body fat.
That’s why the app shows both Scale Weight and True/Trend Weight. They work together to help you understand both your daily measurements and your overall progress.
What is Scale Weight?
Scale Weight is the number you see on your scale and log in the app. It reflects your actual measurement at the time you weigh yourself, so it can naturally move up or down from one day to the next.
In the app, Scale Weight is shown as a pale grey line on the Weight graph in the Progress tab:
In short, Scale Weight shows your weight on a specific day.
What is True or Trend Weight?
True or Trend Weight is a smoothed version of your Scale Weight that helps show the overall direction of your progress without being affected as much by daily fluctuations.
In Progress tab, it is shown as a blue line on the Weight graph and as the current weight number in the Goal section:
Instead of focusing on individual weigh ins, True/Trend Weight makes it easier to see whether your weight is generally moving toward your goal. This can give you a clearer picture of your progress and help you avoid getting discouraged by normal day to day changes.
In short, True/Trend Weight shows your long term weight trend.
How is True or Trend Weight calculated?
True/Trend Weight is calculated using an exponential moving average (EMA) algorithm. In simple terms, it considers your past Scale Weight entries while giving more importance to your most recent measurements.
This creates a smoother trend that responds to changes in your weight without reacting as strongly to short term spikes or drops.
For example, if your Scale Weight increases slightly after a salty meal or changes because of water retention, True/Trend Weight will not immediately follow the same increase. Instead, it helps show whether your weight is actually trending upward or downward.
Can I disable True/Trend Weight?
Scale Weight and True/Trend Weight are designed to work together, so you cannot fully disable True/Trend Weight or switch the app from True/Trend Weight to Scale Weight.
If you prefer to focus only on your daily Scale Weight, you can hide the True/Trend Weight blue line on the Weight graph by tapping the True button:
💡Tip: For a more complete view of your progress, consider True/Trend Weight alongside other indicators such as body measurements, how your clothes fit, and how you feel. No single measurement tells the whole story.
