What Is Estimated 1RM (e1RM)

The estimated one-repetition maximum (e1RM) is a way to measure your current strength level without having to test your true maximum in the gym. Instead of performing a single heavy lift, MyFitCoach calculates your e1RM based on the weights and repetitions you log during your workouts.

This approach is safer, easier to track over time, and still provides valuable insights into how strong you are, especially as your training progresses. Your e1RM adapts as you do, helping ensure your workouts remain both effective and personalized.

How MyFitCoach Calculates e1RM

MyFitCoach uses a variation of the Brzycki formula to calculate your e1RM:

For instance, if you lift 100 kg for 8 reps, your e1RM would be estimated at approximately 126.7 kg. This formula is widely used in strength training and provides reliable results, particularly for sets of 2 to 10 reps.

If your set includes more than 10 reps, the calculation still works, the result simply becomes slightly less precise. While not perfectly accurate, it still gives a useful approximation of your strength, and the app continues to factor it into your ongoing plan.

All of this happens automatically in the background whenever you log your workouts, no manual input required.

How to Use e1RM in the App

There’s nothing you need to activate. When you complete any strength set, regardless of reps, MyFitCoach calculates your e1RM automatically using the Brzycki formula. You can view your e1RM in the exercise summary screen, where it updates in real time as new data comes in.

This value also plays an important role behind the scenes. MyFitCoach uses your e1RM to adjust your training loads, ensuring you’re working at the right intensity for your current strength level. As you get stronger, your e1RM increases and your plan evolves to match.

It’s not necessary (or possible) to enter a manual 1RM. MyFitCoach is designed to track your strength through your training data, so the e1RM is always calculated from your performance, keeping it up-to-date and relevant.

Why e1RM Matters

e1RM is a powerful tool that helps guide your training intelligently. It gives you a clear picture of your current strength level without requiring you to attempt risky one-rep max lifts.

Because it updates automatically based on your logged workouts, it reflects your real-time progress. Whether you’re lifting heavy for fewer reps or doing longer sets, the app uses each session to adjust your program accordingly. Even if your sets go beyond 10 reps, e1RM is still calculated and used, just with slightly less precision.

Ultimately, e1RM helps keep your training safe, progressive, and data-informed, all without the need for manual tracking or guesswork.

Where to See Your e1RM History

  • iOS: Open the exercise, tap History. You’ll see a progress graph showing “all-time” and “current” e1RM.

  • Android: Same flow (exercise → History). Additionally, tap the three-dot menu (top-right) → Statistics. Use the + to add exercises and view metrics based on e1RM or e10RM, plus tonnage, reps, set count, and RPE.

Good to know: After every completed workout, your latest sets are included in the calculation and the graphs update automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is e1RM accurate for high-rep sets?
The Brzycki formula works best for sets between 2 and 10 reps. For sets above 10 reps, the result is still usable, though slightly less accurate. MyFitCoach continues to use it to guide your training regardless.

Can I manually enter my 1RM?
No, MyFitCoach is designed to calculate your e1RM automatically based on your logged workouts. Manual entry is not supported. This keeps your training data consistent and based on actual performance.

What’s the difference between e1RM and a PR?
A personal record (PR) is the heaviest weight you’ve lifted for a specific rep range. e1RM is an estimate of what you could lift for one rep, calculated from your regular training. It updates over time and reflects your current strength, not just your all-time best lift.
