This article shows you how to create and manage custom exercises—and in which cases it makes particular sense to do so.
When is it useful to create your own exercises?
The exercise is missing from the app: Certain variations (e.g., kettlebell exercises or uncommon machine-based movements) might not be included in the standard database.
You’ve switched gyms: Different gyms often use equipment from different manufacturers, which vary in levers, cable angles, and resistance profiles. To accurately document and compare your progress, it makes sense to create separate entries for each machine with specific labels (e.g., "Leg Press Gym XY" vs. "Leg Press Gym B incl. brand name").
You train at different locations: If you alternate between multiple gyms (e.g., home gym and commercial gym), you can create separate entries for each version of a given exercise. This ensures your progress tracking remains meaningful, as different setups may not be comparable.
How to create a custom exercise
There are two ways to create custom exercises in the app:
Option 1: Via the Training tab
Open the Training tab.
Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
Select “Custom Exercises” and then “Create”.
Give your exercise a clear name (e.g., "Chest Press – Gym A Hammer Strength").
Choose a reference exercise from the database that most closely matches your custom movement in terms of movement pattern, target muscles, and intensity structure.
This step is important so the app can properly integrate your custom exercise into your volume and intensity calculations.
Tap “Save”—your new exercise will now be available via the “Add Exercise” button.
Option 2: Directly within your workout
Open the desired workout.
Tap “+ Add Exercise”.
Select “Create” at the top.
Enter a name and select a suitable reference exercise.
Save it—and add it directly to your workout.
How to manage custom exercises
Go to the Training tab and open the three-dot menu, then tap “Custom Exercises”.
You'll see a list of all exercises you've created.
Swipe left or open the three-dot menu next to each entry:
Edit: Update the name or reference exercise
Delete: Permanently removes the exercise including all associated training data
⚠️ Note: Deleting an exercise will also erase all performance data recorded for it.
