When it comes to using your Health Spending Account (HSA) or Wellness Spending Account (WSA), the good news is that there’s no limit on how many times you can purchase an item within a category. As long as you have an available balance and your purchase meets the eligibility requirements, you’re free to claim it—whether it’s your first, second, or fifth time buying that item in the same year or even consecutively across years.

For example:

  • HSA:

    • Prescription Glasses: Buy as many pairs as you’d like—whether it’s for backups, prescription sunglasses, or to match every outfit. Each purchase is eligible for reimbursement, provided your receipt includes the necessary details showing they are prescription!

    • Medical Supplies: Items like CPAP machine accessories, orthotics, or hearing aid batteries can be purchased multiple times throughout the year if needed.

  • WSA:

    • Fitness Memberships: You could sign up for multiple fitness classes, buy work-boots more than once, or even go for multiple spa sessions in the same year, as long as they fall under the eligible spending guidelines for your WSA.

    • Alternative Transportation: If your WSA covers costs like transit passes or ride-share services, you can submit claims for as many rides or months of service as your balance allows.

The flexibility of HSAs and WSAs allows you to prioritize your health and personal needs without arbitrary limits on the number of purchases. However, keep in mind:

  1. Receipts Are Key: Each claim must be supported by a valid receipt showing the date of purchase, the details of the item or service, and proof of payment.

  2. No Duplicates: Make sure that you are not submitting the same receipt more than once!

  3. Available Balance: Your ability to claim multiple items depends on the funds available in your HSA or WSA. Keep an eye on your balance to ensure you’re maximizing your benefits.

Whether you're stocking up on essentials or exploring multiple wellness options, your HSA and WSA are here to support your needs as often as they arise!
