Sometimes, you might not want to claim the full amount of an expense on your myHSA account. Whether it's because you only want to use a portion of your available funds or for any other reason, claiming a partial amount is simple.

Steps to Claim a Partial Amount

  1. Make Your Claim as Usual:

    • Log in to your myHSA account and go to the "Make a Claim" section.

  2. Enter the Partial Amount:

    • In the claim amount field, enter only the amount you’d like to be reimbursed for. For example, if your total expense was $200 but you only want to claim $100, enter $100 in the claim amount field.

  3. Provide a Reason in the Memo Section:

    • In the memo section of the claim form, outline the reason you are not claiming the full amount. This could be any reason, but providing an explanation helps our adjudicators ensure that it isn’t an error. For instance, you might write, “Claiming $100 of the $200 expense to save funds for future claims.”

Example Scenario

  • Expense: You have a dental bill of $300.

  • Partial Claim: You decide to claim only $150.

  • Claim Process:

    • Enter $150 in the claim amount field.

    • In the memo section, write, “Claiming $150 of the $300 expense to save funds for future medical expenses.”
