Using Pre-produced Labels in Multi Box Packing

How the Use Pre-produced Labels in Multi Box Packing client setting controls label-to-package matching during multi-box packing.

When packing multi-box shipments, Logiwa IO supports the use of pre-produced labels — shipping labels obtained outside of the packing station, either by attaching labels directly to the order or through the Create Label step. The Use Pre-produced Labels in Multi Box Packing setting controls how these labels are matched to the packages created during packing. When enabled, the system automatically links pre-produced label tracking numbers to the LP numbers (License Plates) created at the packing station, eliminating the need for a new carrier request at pack time.

When to Use It

Enable this setting when:

  • Your shipping labels are produced in advance before orders are packed

  • Orders are shipped in multiple boxes and you want pre-produced labels matched to each package automatically

  • You want to avoid generating new carrier tracking numbers at the packing station for orders that already have labels attached

Prerequisites

Before using this feature, ensure:

  • The order has pre-produced labels attached in Logiwa IO

  • Your user account has access to Client Settings

  • The Use Pre-produced Labels in Multi Box Packing parameter is enabled under the client's Packing Settings

How to Enable the Setting

  1. Navigate to Clients and open the relevant client record.

  2. Click the Settings tab.

  3. Scroll down to the Packing Settings section.

  4. Locate Use Pre-produced Labels in Multi Box Packing and toggle it on.

  5. Click Save to apply the changes.

How It Works

Pre-produced labels are shipping labels obtained outside of the packing station — either attached directly to the order or generated via the Create Label step.

The system behaves differently depending on whether pre-produced labels exist on the order and whether this setting is enabled.

Scenario

Behavior

No pre-produced labels on the order

Logiwa IO requests tracking numbers from the carrier. One tracking number is created per package.

Pre-produced labels exist — single box (1 label, 1 package)

Regardless of the setting, the LP is created directly using the pre-produced label tracking number. No carrier request is made.

Pre-produced labels exist — multi box, setting disabled

No carrier request is made. LP numbers are generated as orderid_1, orderid_2, etc.

Pre-produced labels exist — multi box, setting enabled

Logiwa IO matches pre-produced labels to the packages created during packing. See label-to-package matching logic below.

Label-to-Package Matching Logic

When the setting is enabled and pre-produced labels exist, the system compares the number of packages packed against the number of pre-produced labels attached to the order.

Labels = Packages
All LPs are created using the pre-produced label tracking numbers. No warning is shown.

Labels > Packages (more labels than packages)
A soft warning is displayed: "You have X packages but Y attached labels. Please verify if the number of labels matches your packages before proceeding."
The packer can choose to Go Back & Edit or Proceed Anyway. If they proceed, only the labels matching the number of packages are used. Unused labels are not printed.

Packages > Labels (more packages than labels)
The same soft warning is displayed. If the packer proceeds, the packages that have a corresponding pre-produced label are matched. Remaining packages receive LP numbers in orderid_n format.

Common Questions & Edge Cases

What happens if the packer proceeds despite a label/package mismatch warning?
Logiwa IO applies the best available match. If there are more labels than packages, unused labels are discarded. If there are more packages than labels, the extra packages are assigned orderid_n LP numbers. The packing is completed either way.

Can I use this setting for single-box orders?
For single-box orders with a pre-produced label, the LP is always created using the pre-produced label tracking number — regardless of whether this setting is enabled or disabled. The Use Pre-produced Labels in Multi Box Packing setting only affects behavior when multiple packages are created during packing.

What if I disable the setting after it has been used?
Disabling the setting will revert to the default behavior (orderid_n LP numbering) for future packing sessions. Previously completed packings are not affected.
