Overview
Before operators can use Instant Count, a warehouse administrator must configure one Instant Count-enabled Job Type for the warehouse. This is a one-time setup step. Once configured, the Job Type is applied automatically whenever an operator starts an Instant Count session — operators never need to select it manually.
When to Use It
Perform this setup when:
You are enabling Instant Count for your warehouse for the first time.
You need to modify the settings (Lock Location, One-by-One Count) of your existing Instant Count Job Type.
Prerequisites
Your user account must have administrator access to Job Type Management.
Only one Instant Count Job Type is allowed per warehouse. If one already exists, the system will block you from creating a second.
A Cycle Count Job Type that is currently assigned to an active Cycle Count wave cannot be enabled as an Instant Count Job Type. Remove the wave assignment first.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Option A — Enable Instant Count on an Existing Cycle Count Job Type
Navigate to Settings > Job Types.
Find an existing Cycle Count Job Type and open it.
Go to the Settings tab.
Locate the Instant Count toggle and switch it on.
Configure the additional settings that appear (see Key Fields & Options below).
Click Save.
If another Instant Count Job Type already exists for this warehouse, you will see an inline validation error. Disable the existing instant count job type for that warehouse to enable another job type.
If this Job Type is assigned to an active Cycle Count wave, the instant count toggle cannot be enabled. Remove the wave assignment first.
Confirm: the Job Type now shows Instant Count: Enabled in its settings.
Option B — Create a New Cycle Count Job Type with Instant Count Enabled
Navigate to Settings > Job Types.
Click Create New Job Type.
Select Cycle Count as the Operation Type.
Complete the required fields for the Job Type (name, warehouse, description).
Go to the Settings tab.
Locate the Instant Count toggle and switch it on.
Configure the additional settings (see Key Fields & Options below).
Click Save.

Lock Location for Instant Count | When enabled, locations are locked during the enitre active Instant Count session, preventing inventory movements while counting.

One-by-One Count | When enabled, operators scan each unit individually; each scan increments the count by one. When off, operators enter a total quantity manually. | Applies to both Cycle Count and Instant Count sessions. |
Batch Size | Not used for Instant Count sessions. | Greyed out when Instant Count is enabled. |
Count Conditions | Not used for Instant Count sessions. | Greyed out when Instant Count is enabled. |
Common Questions & Edge Cases
Can I have more than one Instant Count Job Type per warehouse?
No. Logiwa IO enforces a limit of one Instant Count-enabled Job Type per warehouse. If you try to enable a second, you will see: "An Instant Count Job Type already exists for this warehouse. Only one is permitted per warehouse."
Will enabling the Instant Count toggle affect how the Job Type works for Cycle Count waves?
A Job Type with the Instant Count toggle enabled cannot be assigned to Cycle Count waves — it is automatically excluded from the Job Type selection list in Wave Rule setup. If the Job Type is already in use on a wave, you must remove the wave assignment before the toggle can be enabled.
Can I turn the Instant Count toggle back off?
Yes. The toggle is fully editable. Turning it off will make Instant Count unavailable to operators until a new Instant Count Job Type is configured.
What happens if no Instant Count Job Type is configured and an operator tries to use Instant Count?
The operator will see an error message when they scan their first location. No Count Plan or Job will be created.
