Most students can join a Nearo session through a Room link shared by their teacher, tutor, or organization.
Joining a Room Call
For most sessions, your teacher will share a Nearo Room link with you.
A Room Call lets you join directly from your browser. You do not need to create a Nearo account or download the Nearo desktop app unless your teacher or organization asks you to.
To join a Room Call:
Open the Room link your teacher shared with you.
Allow your browser to use your microphone and camera if prompted.
Type your name in the Your name box, if asked.
Click the join button. It reads Join Room, Request to Join, or Join & Wait.
Wait for your teacher to let you into the Room.
Join the session when your teacher admits you.
đ If your browser blocks camera or microphone access, you may need to update your browser permissions before you can fully participate.
When you need a Nearo account
Some teachers or organizations may ask students to create a Nearo account.
You may need a Nearo account if your teacher wants you to appear in their roster, or to use direct Nearo-to-Nearo Calls instead of Room Calls.
Direct Calls are different from Room Calls because they require you to have a Nearo account and the Nearo desktop app installed.
Ask your teacher which method they use if you are not sure.
Creating your Nearo account
Students create a Nearo account using a Student Invite Link from their teacher.
Open the link your teacher shared. The page reads "Join [teacher]'s class."
Fill in your First Name, Last Name, Email and Create Password, then click Sign Up.
Your request to join your teacher's roster is sent automatically, and the page shows "Request submitted! Waiting for teacher approval."
Nearo does not email your teacher about your request, so let your teacher know you have sent it.
When your teacher approves the request, you receive an email and the roster appears in the roster card on your Dashboard.
If the page says the invite link is no longer valid, ask your teacher for a new link.
âšď¸ Each link is unique and may include a long combination of letters and numbers. This is expected.
Downloading the Nearo desktop app
If your teacher uses direct Calls, you may need to install the Nearo desktop app before joining your session.
If the Nearo desktop app is not already installed, download it from the Dashboard. Open the Nearo Dashboard in your browser and sign in, then find the Download the Nearo App card in the right-hand column of the page (below your rosters in a narrow window). On a Mac or Windows computer, you can also download it from the Nearo download page.

đ You must approve opening the Nearo desktop app when prompted so you can join direct Calls.
Updating your name in the Dashboard
You can update how your name appears to your teacher from the Dashboard.
To update your name:
Open the Nearo Dashboard in your browser and sign in.
Click My Settings in the sidebar down the left side of the page.
Edit your First Name and Last Name, or set a Display Name to be shown instead of your full name.
Click Save Changes.

Joining and participating in sessions
How you join depends on the method your teacher uses.
For a Room Call, open the Room link your teacher shared and join from your browser.
For a direct Call, open the Nearo desktop app, click Sign in on the first screen, Welcome to Nearo (it is below Join a Room), and sign in with your browser or with your email and password before your session starts.
During your session, you may use audio, video, screen sharing, or other tools your teacher makes available.
