What does the Lacquer on my lamp do?

Learn how lacquer protects your NEOZ lamp’s finish and how to check if your lamp is lacquered.

Updated over 2 months ago

At NEOZ, we apply a protective lacquer coating to some of our lamps to help maintain their appearance and protect the surface from wear.

The lacquer acts as a clear shield, preventing the finish from tarnishing, dulling, or changing colour over time. This is particularly important for natural materials like brass, which will naturally develop a patina — a darker, aged look — when left untreated.

For example, a lacquered brass lamp will retain its polished, gold-like shine for years, requiring minimal upkeep. In contrast, an unlacquered brass lamp will gradually develop a warm, aged brass finish as it reacts to air and handling.

By choosing a lacquered finish, you preserve the lamp’s original look for the long term, while also adding a layer of protection against marks and environmental exposure.

How to check if your lamp is lacquered

To determine whether a specific lamp is lacquered or not, you’ll find this information on each product page on our website or within the product specification sheet supplied by our sales team.
