Annotation
Updated over a week ago

To annotate a page, click into a page from Score View.

Click on the black toolbar on the left of your screen to enter annotation mode. Click on a tool to activate it, and draw or click on the score to annotate.

Swipe/scroll with your mouse or trackpad to turn a page, or use the ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ arrows.

Editing tools

To edit a scalable tool, like a dynamic marking or hairpin, click on the tool to activate it, and click it again to bring up an edit box. Access ‘Common’ symbols, ‘All’ of our symbols, and your ‘Favourites’. Change the colour and size of a tool at the bottom of the box.

To edit a pen or highlighter, click on the tool to activate it, and then click on the colour and size options further down the toolbar and adjust accordingly.

List of tools

Below is a list of tools in the toolbar, along with their respective functions:

  1. Musical symbols - To add predesigned symbols such as dynamics and articulation, simply select a symbol, then close the window and drop the symbol with precision anywhere on your music.

  2. Scalable symbols - To add symbols that can be scaled to your needs, such as slurs, staves, and hairpins, select your symbol, click on the score and drag to resize.

  3. Free draw - Draw, write and circle anything you want on a score.

  4. Highlight - Highlight sections in scores.

  5. Erase - Erase markings, text and highlights - any annotations that you've made.

  6. Text - Write notes on the score. When the text box opens, type away. You can also change the size and colour of the text, and move, extend or delete the text box.

  7. Move - Move any markings around the page by selecting and dragging them.

  8. Lasso - To modify a range of markings, simply draw a loop around them, making sure to double-check which layer of markings is active. Once selected, you can move the markings anywhere on the page. To resize and rotate, use a pinching motion on your touchscreen or trackpad, or scroll the mouse wheel while pressing 'Command' on Apple devices and 'Control' on Windows devices. To delete the markings, just select the bin icon attached to the selection.

  9. Change colour - Change the colour of the annotations you're making.

  10. Pen thickness - Adjust the width of your digital nib.

  11. Undo - Erase the most recent annotations.

  12. Redo - Bring back markings that you've recently deleted.

  13. Add layer - Organise your notes and markings into layers to easily focus on specific annotations and hide ones that are not currently necessary. You can edit the layer name, delete, or hide an annotation layer as needed.
