In July 2026, Notch moved teams from the competition level to the group level. If you run multiple competitions with the same teams, you now enter each team once and use it across every competition in your group.
What changed
Two things follow from this move:
The Teams page has been removed. Teams are no longer managed on a separate screen. You create and maintain them in the places you already use them, which are single game entry and CSV import.
Teams are shared across your group. Every assignor in your group sees and can reuse the same set of teams.
Your existing teams and games were migrated automatically. No action is needed on your part, and your games still show the same teams they did before.
How duplicates are handled
Notch now matches team names while ignoring capitalization and extra spaces. "Riverside FC", "riverside fc", and " Riverside FC " are all treated as the same team.
Notch does not match across differences in punctuation or spelling. "Team 1" and "Team-1" are still two separate teams. Please use consistent naming when creating games and across your imports.
If you try to create a team whose name already exists in your group, Notch blocks it and points you to the existing team.
Imports
As before, when you import games with new teams the Notch systems will automatically add those teams to your group. Rows that differ only by capitalization or spacing now collapse into a single team.
Adding a team during game creation
When creating a single game you can add the team or teams during the game creation process. Follow the same steps as outlined in our game creation guide until you reach the team selection.
Start typing the team name. The list filters as you type. If the team already exists, select it.
If it does not exist, you have two options. Select "+ Create new team" from the drop down, or create it directly from the name you typed.
Either option opens a prompt for the new team name.
Enter the team's name and click the "Create Team" button. This creates the team for your group, sets it as the Home or Away team for the game, and makes it available in every other competition in your group right away.
Two rules apply when you save:
You cannot set the same team as both Home and Away.
A team name cannot be blank or spaces only.
Renaming a team
Open the team selection drop down and hover over the team you want to change. Click the pencil icon to open the rename prompt.
Renaming updates the shared team record for your group, so the new name appears wherever that team is used going forward.
You cannot rename a team to a name that already belongs to another team in your group. Renaming corrects a single team record. It does not merge two teams into one.
Merging duplicate teams
There is currently no way to merge two existing teams yourself. If your group has duplicate team records that need to be combined, start a conversation with us and we will help.
