Make Sure You Know Your Recipient

Important info to read before adding new contacts, make sure you know who you’re sending money to.

Updated over a week ago

Sending money should feel simple, and safe. Before you add a new contact or send a payment, it’s important to make sure you know the person or business you’re paying and that their details are correct.

This step is here to protect you.

Why this matters

Once a payment is sent, it may not be possible to recover it. Scammers often try to create urgency or confusion so money is sent to the wrong person.

By taking a moment to confirm your recipient:

  • You reduce the risk of fraud or scams

  • You avoid sending money to the wrong account

  • You help keep your account secure

This is especially important when sending money for the first time or when someone asks you to change payment details.

Before you add a new contact, always check:

Take a few seconds to confirm the following:

✅ You know the recipient

  • You have met them, worked with them, or trust them

  • You are not being pressured to send money urgently

  • You are confident they are who they say they are

If something feels unusual, stop and double‑check.

✅ The details are correct

Make sure the payment details were shared with you securely and match exactly:

  • Full name of the person or business

  • Bank name

  • Account number / IBAN

  • Any other required details

Even a small mistake can send money to the wrong place.

When you send money

Before completing a transfer, you’ll be asked to confirm the recipient.

By confirming, you’re telling us that:

  • You know and trust the recipient

  • The payment details are correct

  • You understand the risks of sending money

This confirmation helps prevent mistakes and unauthorised payments.

If you’re unsure - stop

Do not send money if:

  • You feel rushed or threatened

  • Someone asks you to keep the payment secret

  • The request doesn’t make sense

  • The details were changed suddenly

It’s always okay to pause and check.
