Reviewing a draft before it goes live

Using Before and After, the change list, and the Accept and Discard buttons to check the assistant's work.

Written by Paulo

Which editor is this for? This guide covers the new Site Editor. You are in the right place if your toolbar has a Media button and your assistant is called Ellie. If it does not, you are on the Site Tuner — see the Site Tuner guides instead.

Every change the assistant makes arrives as a draft. Nothing touches your live website until you accept it and then publish, so you can take as long as you like over it.

The change summary

When a draft is ready, the assistant panel shows a card describing what it did. The card has a short title for the request, a sentence explaining the thinking behind it, and a count such as 7 changes.

Under the count is one row per section it touched, for example Page: About Us — Updated the Hero section (2 updates). Each row has a View link; the row you are currently looking at reads Viewing instead.

Looking at a change on the page

Click View on any row and the preview jumps to that section. The section is framed in green, and a label in the corner tells you which page and section you are looking at, for example About Us › Hero.

Comparing before and after

The Before and After buttons in the top bar switch the preview between your current site and the drafted version. Everything else stays where it is, so you can flick between the two and read the difference in place.

Before shows the wording your visitors see right now. After shows what the site would say if you accept.

Accepting or discarding

At the bottom of the change card are two buttons.

Button

What happens

Accept

The assistant applies the changes and saves them to your site's content. You will see Applying your changes, then a confirmation.

Discard

The draft is thrown away and your site content is left exactly as it was.

There is also a Discard in the top right of the editor, which does the same thing for the draft you are reviewing.

Accepted is not the same as live

This is the part that catches people out. After you accept, the assistant is explicit about it: the changes are saved to your site's content, but they are not live on your website yet. They go live when you publish.

If you want the changes online, carry on to Publishing your site and managing your domain.
