The Site Editor at a glance

A tour of the OneSite editor: the preview, the toolbar, the prompt bar and where your settings live.

Written by Paulo

Which editor is this for? This guide covers the new Site Editor. You are in the right place if your toolbar has a Media button and your assistant is called Ellie. If it does not, you are on the Site Tuner — see the Site Tuner guides instead.

The Site Editor is where you change your OneSite website. There are three ways to work in it, and you can mix them freely:

  • Describe what you want to Ellie, your site assistant, in the prompt bar.

  • Adjust the design directly in the Style editor.

  • Keep your business information current in Settings, and let the site follow.

The preview

The large area in the middle is a live preview of your website. It is your real site, not a picture of it. Scroll it to read a page all the way to the footer.

The toolbar

Control

What it does

Panel icon

Opens and closes your conversation with Ellie.

Gear icon

Settings — preferences, CTA links and analytics for your site.

Style

The Style editor: site-wide design, plus spacing for the section you have selected.

Media

Your Media — every image on your site, plus uploads and AI-generated photos.

Page: dropdown

Jumps the preview to any page on your site.

Screen icon

Changes the preview size between Desktop, Tablet and Mobile.

Preview site icon

Opens your site on its own, without the editor around it.

Publish

Pushes your saved changes out to your live website.

While Ellie has a draft waiting for you, Before and After buttons also appear here, along with undo and redo arrows and a Discard.

The prompt bar

The box across the bottom of the preview, What do you want to improve?, is how you ask Ellie for changes. Type a request, press the arrow, and she drafts the edit for you to review.

Your business information

The round button in the bottom-left corner opens the information your site is built from, grouped into Knowledge (Business, Services, Service Areas, Team, Gallery, Site Enhancements and Integrations) and Products (Domain & Publishing).

Do not confuse this with the gear in the toolbar. The gear holds settings that control how the site behaves; this button holds the facts about your business.

Get started

A Get started checklist sits in the bottom-right corner with a progress count, for example 4/6. It walks you through asking Ellie for a change, site enhancements, your business details, changing how your site looks, publishing, and what to do once you are live. Open it to pick up where you left off, or choose Hide for now.

The one thing to know before you start

Changes are saved as you make them, but they are not on your website until you publish. A banner above the prompt bar says so whenever you have unpublished work: Your changes are saved but aren't on your website yet. See Publishing your site and managing your domain.
