Schools that choose to track attendance during summer sessions can use dedicated summer school attendance tools within jmc. By creating a Summer School Calendar and using the Attendance module, schools can record daily attendance and calculate totals as needed. This process keeps summer attendance data aligned with student enrollment records and available for reporting.

jmc organizes the summer school attendance process into the following components:

  • Creating a Summer School Calendar

  • Recording Summer School Attendance

  • Calculating Summer School Attendance Totals

Creating a Summer School Calendar

The Summer School Calendar is available for schools that choose to record summer attendance in jmc. Once enabled, it allows you to designate specific days as summer school days at the building level, establishing the structure required for accurate attendance tracking.

  • Summer School Dates radio button: Defines the start and end dates of your summer school term, separates summer attendance from the regular school year, and enables use of the Attendance module for summer sessions.

Recording Summer School Attendance

With the Summer School Calendar in place, schools can record attendance using the Attendance module. This allows staff to manage summer attendance with familiar tools while clearly distinguishing summer school data from regular-term records.

  • Summer School Attendance radio button: Displays the calendar view used to enter and manage summer term dates.

  • Find field: Shows students enrolled in the summer term, as indicated on the General tab of the View Student Data page.

  • Attendance Codes: Used to indicate excused and unexcused absences or tardies during the summer term.

Calculating Summer School Attendance

For Minnesota schools reporting summer school attendance through MARSS, additional setup is required to enable automatic calculation of summer attendance totals. Once summer school days and attendance are recorded, student MARSS records provide the data jmc uses to calculate those totals.

To support automatic attendance calculations, a student’s summer-term MARSS record must include:

  • Status Start and End Dates: A date range that falls within the Summer School Calendar dates.

  • % Enrolled: A value of 999 and a day length entered in minutes.
