Using automated broadcasts, Openstage can send custom abandoned cart reminders to fans that have left items in their cart at Shopify checkout without purchase.

Using merge tags in your Abandoned Cart broadcasts, you can:

  • Personalise your email

  • Display cart items

  • Provide a link back to the cart to complete purchase

Connect your Shopify store

Before the integration can be used, you must connect your Shopify store.

To do this, head to:

Settings > Integrations

Select the Shopify integration and follow the instructions provided.

For more on integrating your Shopify store, check out our full article.

⚠️ Please Note: This automation only functions for Shopify stores.

Other store integrations cannot use the Abandoned Cart automation.

Create your Abandoned Cart automation

To create your Abandoned Cart automation, start by heading to:

Engage > Automated broadcasts

Select '+ New Automation' in the upper right of the window.

The new automation panel will open. Choose 'Abandoned Cart' as your trigger and select email as your channel.

Your new automation will be created!

From here, you can adjust aspects of your automation, such as:

  • Start and end dates

  • Only send once

  • Subject line and preview text

  • Message content

Please Note: In order for your automation to run every time a fan leaves items in their cart at checkout, you should:

  • Leave 'Only send once' off

  • Leave 'End date' blank

Message content

Your Abandoned Cart automation should utilise some key elements - merge tags.

Merge tags allow Openstage to:

  • Display items left in the cart at checkout

  • Provide a link back to the cart

Additionally, you can personalise your abandoned cart broadcasts with merge tags.

Add a fan's first name using:

{{fan_first_name}}

Display items left in cart at checkout

Displaying items left in the cart at checkout can be a great way to remind fans of the items they were interested in purchasing.

The merge tag for displaying items left in the cart at checkout is:

{{abandoned_checkout_products}}

This merge tag needs to be added as text in the email builder. Once the automation is triggered and sent, the broadcast will be populated with the items automatically.

⚠️ Please Note: The {{abandoned_checkout_products}} merge tag can only be used in Abandoned Cart email broadcasts.

Link back to cart in checkout

Providing a link back to the cart is a great way to remove barriers between the fan and their purchase.

The merge tag for taking fans back to their cart is:

{{abandoned_checkout_url}}

This merge tag should be added to a button in the email builder. Once the automation is triggered and sent, the broadcast will be populated with the correct link for the fan.

πŸ’ͺ Top Tip: Provide strong CTA to fans.

Your Abandoned Cart broadcasts should be straightforward and streamlined.

Avoid using too much text, or becoming unintentionally confusing with too many disparate elements.

A strong call to action should be used, such as:

Complete your purchase

Or:

Take me back to the store!

Trigger conditions

The Abandoned Cart automation triggers 10 hours after a fan has left items in their cart at checkout.

This automation can be filtered and limited in the same way as other automated broadcasts, such as with audience criteria.
