Send automated SMS and Email broadcasts to fans for their birthday!

Alongside Welcome Emails for new sign-ups and automated broadcasts for items left at store checkout and specific poll answers, Openstage can send automated broadcasts to fans on their birthday.


Create your Birthday SMS/Email

To start, head to:

Engage > Automated broadcasts

Create a new automated broadcast, select Has a birthday as the trigger and choose your broadcast channel.

Use the Details and Content tabs to adjust aspects of your automation and compose your message.

Birthday automation content

While it's great to wish fans a happy birthday, we would recommend finding ways to give something back to fans.

This can be done by:

  • Providing store discounts

  • Presenting fans with access to exclusive merch

  • Supplying exclusive content, such as music demos, or behind the scenes videos

Once your birthday automation has been activated, keep an eye on your message inbox for any SMS responses and reply-to inbox for any email responses that may have been sent by fans.


Birthday automation flow

Your birthday automation flow should provide avenues for fans to:

  • Show engagement

  • Get something back from the artist

To do this, we recommend the following flow:

Birthday automation email/SMS > Link to hidden landing page

While email can provide a link to your store and a discount code, emails can't host videos or download links.

Hidden landing pages allow you to host:

  • A birthday video message

  • Download links for any demos, wallpapers, etc

  • A birthday discount

  • A link to your store

Utilising more steps in the flow also provides an opportunity for fans to segment themselves based on their engagement.

While you can send both email and SMS birthday automations to one hidden page, separating the flows allows you to see the performance metrics for email vs SMS.


Performance

In order to see a better representation of your birthday email/SMS performance, your merch store should be connected.

Connecting your merch store allows our system to attribute purchases to broadcasts. This is represented by Earnings on email broadcasts and ROI on SMS broadcasts.

SMS credit

In order for SMS automations to send, SMS credit MUST be topped up beforehand.

To calculate your average monthly cost for a birthday SMS, simply create an SMS broadcast and limit the audience to fans with a listed date of birth.

The review section of this broadcast will display the cost of sending SMS to these fans.

Divide this estimate by 12 to get an average monthly cost.

Note: This estimate is the maximum cost at the time the estimate was made for the fans that were selected. Collecting more DOB or phone number data for fans may change this estimate.
