Accounting Settings Overview

A guide to the Settings menu: fiscal periods, approvals, bank accounts, object codes, and fund setup.

Settings is where an Accounting account is configured before day-to-day use. It holds the foundational setup — fiscal years, approval rules, bank accounts, object codes, and the funds your school uses — and reflects how your individual school operates.

Key things you set up here:

  • Fiscal periods and beginning balances — your fiscal year(s) and the starting balances Accounting builds on

  • Approvals and notifications — who has to approve transactions, at what dollar amounts, and how staff are alerted

  • Account structure — chart of accounts format, account groups, object codes, and the school fund list

  • Bank accounts — account and routing numbers, running balances, and check numbers

  • System options — district-wide feature toggles (object codes, purchase orders, vendor approval, tax ID)
