I'm contracting my abs on purpose but the Contraction Quality Meter remains green
Updated over 2 months ago

The Contraction Quality Meter was designed to help refine your pelvic floor contraction technique by helping you detect when the pressure in the pelvic cavity becomes higher than your pelvic floor contraction itself. It's useful as a good contraction technique will boost training efficiency and protect your pelvic floor.

💡The Contraction Quality meter is not an abs detection tool. An increased pressure in the pelvic cavity can reveal a deep exhale, contracting your abdominal muscles (or "bearing down"), squeezing your buttocks, closing your thighs firmly, but also a nearby organ in all or specific training positions...

What the Contraction Quality Meter says exactly :

  • 🟢 When it's green: Your pelvic floor contraction is strong enough to support your organs, despite the pressure on it from the pelvic cavity. Technically, this means that the pressure felt by the bottom sensor on the probe is at least twice as high as the pressure felt by the upper sensor.

  • 🟠When it's orange: Your pelvic floor contraction is as strong as the pressure in the pelvic cavity.

  • 🔴When it's red: Your pelvic floor contraction needs focus as the pressure in the pelvic cavity starts to be stronger. Technically, this means that the pressure felt by the bottom sensor on the probe is lower than the pressure felt by the upper sensor.

That being said, here are some notes:

  • If you contract your abs on purpose while also contracting your pelvic floor, the Contraction Quality Meter will not turn red for sure. It all depends on your anatomy and the ratio of pressure between the pelvic cavity and your pelvic floor.

  • Using your abs on purpose could push Perifit down a bit and impact the sensors' locations and readings.

  • We do not recommend pushing down on purpose as it adds extra pressure on your pelvic floor but if you want to visualize the ratio of pressure on each sensor, go to the Exercises tab > start the "Practice Lab". The green line is the bottom sensor, while the pinkish one is the upper sensor.
