How to Size Content in the Elements app
Dimensions and proper sizing are critical factors when recreating templates using the Elements application. The dimensions of your original template may appear in inches whereas objects within Pitchly’s Elements application display as pixels. If this is the case, you will need to calculate appropriate canvas, margins and font size to retain the desired template integrity and layout dimensions. The Elements App Content Calculator will assist with these conversions.
Once you open the Elements App Content Calculator, use the download button in the top right corner of the screen to download the Excel file.
Calculators for each conversion type are located in the sheet tabs at the bottom of the file.
Pixel Calculator
Converts inches to pixels and yields the correct canvas size to Elements app content.
1. | Open the sheet labeled “Pixel Calculator” |
2. | In Pitchly, open a new template |
3. | Enter the template name in Column A of the calculator |
4. | Obtain the height and width of content from the source document/content
Pro Tip: To find slide dimensions in PowerPoint, navigate to the Design tab and locate Slide Size at the far right end of the tool bar. Select the Custom Slide Size option. A new window will open displaying slide width and height (see below).
Pro Tip: To find the size of a specific content shape, such as an individual tombstone, select the shape. The height and width of the shape will display on the top right hand side of the shape format tool bar (see below).
|
5. | Input these height and width units in Columns B & C |
6. | The converted values will auto-calculate in Columns D & E |
7. | In the Pitchly Elements template, input the calculated height and width into the Elements app designer page dimensions (shown below) |
8. | Add any notes in Column F & G, such as fields used and/or conditions, added to the template |
Margin Calculator
Aligns the page margins of the source document with page margins on the Pitchly export screen.
1. | Open the sheet labeled “Margin Calculator” |
2. | The sizing input should use a single and consistent unit of measurement |
| ex. all input values should use either inches or pixels |
3. | Input the page/slide width and height sizes (the width and height of the page or slide should align with the source document and the page layout entered in the Pitchly export screen settings) |
4. | Input the page margins of the source document (top, bottom, left, right) in Column B
Pro tip: To identify exact margin size in inches, insert a shape within the margin space and view the dimensions in the top right corner (see below). |
5. | The Pitchly page margins will auto-calculate in Column C and the values reflected represent the margins as a percentage of the total page |
6. | Enter the Pitchly page margin values in the Pitchly export screen without the percentage symbol |
7. | Padding determines the spacing between each design asset on a page. Increase or decrease padding to adjust how near or far templates will be from each other. Since padding is scaled to overall page size, the input number can be negative. |
PPT Font Size to Pitchly Calculator
Calculates the appropriate font size to use in the Pitchly Elements app based on the font size in PowerPoint.
1. | Open the sheet labeled “PPT Font Size to Pitchly Calculator” |
2. | Enter the font size from the PowerPoint source document in Column A |
3. | Enter the height of the shape (i.e. tombstone) in inches in Column B by right clicking the shape and then selecting Size and position (this number should align with Column B in the Pixel calculator) |
4. | Column C should always be set to 72 |
5. | Enter the height of the page from the Elements app canvas in Column D (this should align with Column D in the Pixel Calculator) |
6. | The font size calculated in Column E should be applied to the text layer in your Elements app canvas |
Please note: Elements rendered in Templafy should match source font sizing. Content exported from Pitchly will match source font sizing if all page margins are also aligned.
Pitchly Font to PPT Calculator
Calculates the appropriate PowerPoint font size based on a font size assigned in the Pitchly Elements app.
1. | Open the sheet labeled “Pitchly Font to PPT Calculator” |
2. | Enter the font size from the Pitchly Elements app in Column A |
3. | Enter height of the Elements app canvas in Column B |
4. | Enter the height of the shape (i.e. tombstone) in inches in Column C. The inches are displayed in the shape format options in PowerPoint. This number should align with Column B in the Pixel calculator |
5. | Column D should always be set to 72 |
6. | The font calculated in Column E will display when content is rendered in PowerPoint |
Although the Elements App Content Calculator serves as a helpful guide for determining proper canvas, margins and font size conversions, incremental adjustments to the calculated values may be necessary in some cases. Make sure to review all exported content to confirm proper template integrity and sizing.
