Note: This article covers the Sort Your Groups screen you see during club onboarding, the very first time you set up groups. For ongoing group management once your club is up and running, such as renaming, deleting, or managing members within a group, see the Groups articles in Team & Player Management.
Groups are the foundational access control unit across PLAI. Memberships, links, and content are all scoped to a group, so you need at least one before you can move on to Open Your Business.
Creating your first group
Tap Begin on the Sort Your Groups card.
On the "Set Your Groups" screen, enter a name for your first group. It must be unique within your club.
Tap Next or Add. Your group appears in the list on screen.
Adding more groups and sections
Tap Add Another Group.
In the drawer that opens, enter a name and description.
Choose whether the group is Standalone or In a Section.
If you choose a section, either pick an existing one or tap Add Section to create a new one, entering its own name and description.
You can nest existing groups into a section, and move or reassign groups between sections at any point before finishing this step.
Finishing the step
Once you have at least one group, tap Complete Setup. Your groups and sections are saved, the step shows a green tick, and a toast confirms the save.
Important: A single group with no sections is a completely valid way to complete this step. Sections are optional.
Editing after completion
Tap the edit icon on the completed Sort Your Groups card to open group management, where you can add new groups, rename existing ones, or reorganise sections.
FAQ
What happens if I try to create a group with a name that's already taken?
You will see: "A group with this name already exists. Please choose a different name." Group names must be unique within your club.
Can I create a section with no groups in it yet?
Yes, an empty section saves fine, though PLAI will note that it has no functional effect until you add groups to it.
