Why Won't My Club Name Work?

Club name rules when creating a new club on PLAI, including length limits, allowed characters, and what happens if a similar club already exists.

If you're stuck on the club name step while creating a new club, here's what PLAI expects.

Length and characters

  • Your club name needs to be between 3 and 50 characters.

  • Letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens (-), ampersands (&), apostrophes ('), and periods (.) are all fine.

  • Symbols like @ # $ % ^ * ( ) are not allowed and will trigger an inline error as soon as you type them.

  • Leading, trailing, or doubled-up spaces are automatically cleaned up for you.

Note: This 3–50 character limit applies specifically to creating a brand new club. If you're editing the name of a club you already run, that field allows up to 80 characters instead, see "How to Edit Your Club's Name, Bio, Logo, and Address."

If a similar club already exists

If the name you type is a close match (75% or more) to an existing club, PLAI shows you a list of similar clubs with their match percentage. You can either tap one of those to request to join it instead, or ignore the suggestions and keep creating your own club.

Other reasons it might be blocked

  • The name is under 3 characters.

  • It contains blocked words caught by the profanity filter.

FAQ

Can two clubs have the exact same name?

Yes, club names don't have to be unique. The similar-name suggestion is just there to help you avoid accidentally creating a duplicate of your own club.
