A Section is a container that organizes related Groups together, like grouping all your U13 squads or all your club's captains under one heading. A Section can't hold members directly, only Groups can, see Understanding Your Groups Screen for how the two fit together.
From the Groups screen, tap + Add New.
On the Select Group Type screen, select Section. An italic note appears under it: "You cannot add members directly to a Section." Tap Next.
On the Create Section screen, enter a name into the Section Name field. A live counter below the field counts up to 40/40; typing beyond 40 characters is blocked. Tap Next.
Enter an optional description into the Section Description field, up to 120/120 characters. This step is optional, so Next stays active either way. Tap Next.
On the Add Groups step, search for existing Groups using the search bar. Only Groups that aren't already nested in another Section will appear.
Selected Groups move to the top of the list with a yellow checkmark, and a live "X Selected" counter updates as you pick more.
Need a Group that doesn't exist yet? Tap + Create a Group to make one inline. It's automatically added and selected once created.
Tap Next.
On the Review your Section screen, check the Section name, description, and selected Groups, then tap Create Section. The button shows a loading state while it processes.
Once created, you're returned to the Groups screen where your new Section appears immediately with its Groups nested underneath.
Important Notes
The Next button on the type selection screen stays disabled until you choose either Section or Group. If you enter only spaces in the Section Name field, PLAI trims them and treats the field as empty.
Section names don't need to be unique, but PLAI recommends it. If you reuse a name, you'll see: "A section with this name already exists in this club. Consider using a unique name." You can continue anyway.
If you navigate back at any step, everything you've entered is preserved. Going all the way back to the type selection screen prompts: "Your progress will be lost. Are you sure?"
FAQ
Why won't PLAI let me continue past the name step?
The Section Name field can't be empty or made of only spaces. If it's empty, you'll see "Section name is required." If it's just 1 character, you'll see "Section name must be at least 2 characters."
Can I add a Group that's already in another Section?
No. A Group can only belong to one Section at a time. Groups already nested elsewhere won't appear in the Add Groups search results.
What if my connection drops while creating a Section?
You'll see: "Unable to create section. Please check your connection and try again." Nothing is created until the request succeeds, so you can safely retry from the Review screen.
