Sometimes you might wonder why some of your customers or members are not receiving your emails. This may be related to their email subscription status!
Their subscription status indicates whether or not they are subscribed to receive marketing emails.
Checking someone's email subscription status
You can easily check a customer or member's subscription status from your Podia dashboard!
Click on Audience in the sidebar menu.
Search for the person you'd like to check the subscription status using their name or email address in the search bar.
In the Subscription column on the Audience page, you will see their current subscription status.
They can be "Subscribed", "Not subscribed", or, if you've turned on double opt-in, they can be "Unconfirmed".
You can also click on their name to access their profile. From here, you can check their subscription status under Details, on the right-hand side:
And that's how you can find out if a specific person is subscribed to marketing emails or not!
Now, let's take a look at what the subscription status means.
Subscribed
Subscribers are contacts that will receive your marketing emails.
Marketing emails are any emails you send as broadcasts or campaigns.
Not subscribed
People marked as "Not subscribed" are contacts that WON'T receive marketing emails.
These are people that have opted out of receiving emails from you or did not subscribe in the first place.
They will still receive transactional emails such as purchase confirmations, email notifications, certificates, course delays, etc.
Not subscribed contacts can re-subscribe to receive emails from you at anytime.
They can easily adjust their email subscription preferences by accessing their accounts.
Unconfirmed
If you have double opt-in turned on, you might see a third subscription status: Unconfirmed.
People with the "Unconfirmed" status have subscribed to receive emails from you, but they haven't yet confirmed their email addresses through double opt-in.
Once they confirm their emails, their status will be changed to "Subscribed".
You can resend a confirmation email to unconfirmed subscribers if they are having trouble confirming their email addresses.
Filtering your audience by subscription status
You can filter people in your audience by subscription status to only show accounts that match a certain criteria.
From your audience page, click on "Filter" and select the "Subscription" filter.
From there, click on the dropdown menu to select what subscription status you'd like to filter and hit "Apply".
People in your audience that match the criteria will automatically show based on the filters you have chosen.

If you turn off double opt-in for your account, any unconfirmed subscribers will remain unconfirmed.
We would recommend re-sending a confirmation email to any unconfirmed subscribers so they're able to confirm their emails.

No.
Per CAN-SPAM and GDPR regulations, customers are the only ones that can manage their subscription preferences.
You won't be able to manually subscribe a person if they have explicitly opted out of receiving emails. However, you can still instruct them on how to re-subscribe to emails from the platform!
