How to connect TikTok Ads to Polar, fix common errors and see available TikTok Ads metrics and dimensions.

Connecting to TikTok Ads

Before setting up the connector, verify your TikTok account already has campaign data on it so Polar has something to pull in.

  1. Go to your Connectors page and find TikTok Ads.

  2. Make sure you have the necessary user rights on the TikTok account you're connecting.

  3. When you go through TikTok's authentication flow, check all permission boxes — if any are left unchecked, Polar won't be able to access the data.

Note: TikTok only began exposing Conversion Value via API as of Jan 31, 2023. Until fully supported on Polar's side, Conversion Value may populate as zeros for some accounts.

Once connected, data will be available at the next refresh, and you'll find it on the Acquisition page, Key Indicators, and in your Custom Reports.

At this time we do not have a native TikTok Shop connector. If you're TikTok Shop data is flowing into Shopify it will appear as an Order Sales Channel in Polar.

Troubleshooting Common Connection Errors

Most TikTok connection issues in Polar come down to permissions — either during setup, or a permission that was later revoked on the TikTok side.

Why do I get an error when connecting TikTok?

This is most likely a permission issue.

Steps to resolve:

  1. Confirm you have the necessary user rights on the TikTok account.

  2. Reconnect and make sure every permission box is checked during TikTok's authentication flow — Polar needs all of them to access the data.

My connector keeps failing even after I reconnect — what's going on?

If your connector fails repeatedly with an error like "No permission to operate advertiser: [ID] (code=40001)", reconnecting from Polar won't fix it. This error means the TikTok user account behind the connection no longer has advertiser_management access to that specific advertiser account in TikTok Ads Manager. A fresh Polar OAuth token doesn't restore that — the permission grant lives entirely on TikTok's side.

Steps to resolve:

  1. Have an admin on the TikTok Ads Manager account grant the connecting user access to the advertiser account in question, or

  2. Reconnect using a different TikTok user who already has advertiser_management access to that advertiser.

This is a common pattern whenever someone who originally set up the connector changes roles or leaves the company — the TikTok-side grant goes with them even though the Polar connector still shows as configured.
