Learn how to connect Facebook Ads, resolve missing permissions, and see ad spend data with this step-by-step guide

Written by Louise

Overview

Connect your Facebook Ads account to Polar Analytics to bring your ad performance and spend data into Polar for reporting and analysis. This article shows you how to set up the connector, fix common permission issues, and understand what data is available once your account is connected. It covers three main areas: connecting Facebook Ads, resolving “Missing Permissions” errors, and fixing missing ad spend data.

Connect Facebook Ads

To connect Facebook Ads successfully, you need full admin access to the ad account or accounts you want to link. Without that level of access, the connection will not complete.

Before you start

Make sure you have full admin access to the Facebook ad account(s) you want to connect.

Step 1: Open the Connectors page in Polar

  1. Log in to Polar Analytics.

  2. Go to the Connectors page.

  3. In the Marketing section, find Facebook Ads. You can also use the search bar in the top-right corner to locate it.

  4. Click Connect to Polar Analytics.

Step 2: Authorize Polar in Facebook Business Manager

  1. You will be redirected to Facebook Business Manager.

  2. Log in to your Facebook account.

  3. Follow the prompts to:

    • Select the business or businesses you want to connect.

    • Review and approve Polar Analytics’ access request.

  4. On the final screen, click Got It to finish authorization.

Step 3: Choose your ad accounts

  1. Back in Polar, select the ad accounts you want to connect.

  2. Click Save Configuration.

Best practice

We recommend connecting only 1 to 3 ad accounts per connection. You can always add more later by selecting + Add Facebook Ads Account.

“Missing Permissions” Errors

A “Missing Permissions” error usually means one of two things:

  1. You do not have sufficient permissions for one or more listed ad accounts.

  2. Polar Analytics has not been granted the required permissions for the business managers that own those ad accounts.

Step 1: Check whether you can access the ad account

  1. Log in to Meta Business Manager settings.

  2. Go to the Ad accounts section.

  3. Search for the ad account number mentioned in the error.

What to look for:

  • If the ad account does not appear: you do not currently have access to it. Request access to the ad account and ask the owner to grant you the admin role.

  • If the ad account appears: you have at least partial access, and you should continue to the next steps.

Step 2: Confirm your permissions on the ad account

  1. In the ad account settings, look for your name in the list of people assigned to the account.

  2. If your name is not listed, ask someone who already has access to add you by clicking Add People and grant you full permissions.

  3. If your name is listed, click your name.

  4. Make sure Manage Ad Accounts is toggled on.

What it means:

  • If the toggle is on, move to Step 3.

  • If the toggle is missing, you do not have the required permissions. Contact the ad account owner or an admin and ask them to grant you an Admin role so the permission becomes available.

Step 3: Confirm Polar Analytics app permissions in Facebook

  1. Open your personal Facebook profile.

  2. Find the Polar Analytics app and click View and Edit.

  3. Make sure all permission toggles are enabled, especially:

    • Manage ad accounts

    • Read ads

Step 4: Reset the connection

If everything looks correct but the issue persists, reset the connection:

  1. Remove the Polar Analytics app from your Facebook Business Integrations.

  2. In Polar, go back to the Connectors page.

  3. Delete the broken Facebook connector.

  4. Reconnect the Facebook ad account by following the connection steps at the top of this article.

Manage Meta Ad Spend

If you want to manage ad spend directly from Polar, this is an opt-in feature and requires Business Management permissions.
