This guide will help you understand the key points of migrating from TripleWhale, including potential impacts on your social proof and ad learnings and how to handle UTMs to ensure a smooth transition.

Handling UTMs During the Migration

For your current campaigns, you can keep your existing TripleWhale UTMs, as our initial data sync will support those UTMs. However, for any new campaigns, we recommend to use Polar Analytics UTMs.

  • If a UTM parameter is only for TripleWhale, you can leave it as is. We won’t process it.

  • If a UTM parameter is only for Polar, it won’t affect TripleWhale.

  • If a UTM parameter is used by both Polar and TripleWhale, make sure it is set up exactly the same on both platforms.

    • If the parameter is not identical (i.e., they don't have the same value or meaning), it could cause discrepancies and affect your data tracking.

Impact on Social Proof

There is a workaround to retain social proof, though it won't preserve the learnings. You can find more details about this here: Will updating my UTMs also reset my audience and learnings?

Impact on Ad Learnings

When changing UTMs your ads reset, which would put them back into the learning phase. This reset can affect your ads' performance initially as the platforms gather new data to optimize them again. At this time, there isn't a foolproof workaround to prevent this reset.

However, for Google Ad campaigns, you can configure UTMs at the ad account level using these steps and the tracking template here. You must reference the right parent campaign name within the actual_campaign_name_hardcoded parameter.

Setting UTM tags at the account level for Google Ad campaigns does not impact existing ads. This allows you to add these tracking tags without disrupting or resetting the performance data and insights that have been gathered from your current ads. Keep in mind, this means your current ads will remain unchanged, and the new template will only apply to new ads created in future campaigns.

By following these guidelines, you can smoothly transition from TripleWhale to Polar Analytics, ensuring minimal disruption to your campaigns. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our support team for assistance.
