Best Practices for recording with PractaLuma
PractaLuma’s transcription and AI note generation tools are designed to help you document sessions efficiently and ethically. For best results, especially when recording multi-speaker conversations like client sessions, it’s essential to prioritise audio clarity. Here’s how to get started with confidence.
🎤 1. Check and Test Your Microphone Setup
Good recording starts with the right equipment.
✅ Microphone Setup Tips:
Use a high-quality external microphone, USB headset or your phone and upload the recording later.
Place the microphone centrally between yourself and the client, ideally on a stable surface.
Use omnidirectional mics if recording in-person sessions where both voices come from different directions.
🔍 Before you record:
Run a quick test recording using your device’s recorder or inside PractaLuma.
Check that both voices (yours and the client's) are audible, balanced, and clear.
🤫 2. Minimise Background Noise
Ambient noise can reduce transcription quality.
Choose a quiet, enclosed room with minimal foot traffic.
Close windows, silence phones, and avoid rooms with echo or Air-conditioner noise.
If working remotely, ask your client to also use headphones and find a quiet space.
Bonus Tip:
Consider using noise-reducing software or settings, if available on your mic or video platform (e.g., Zoom).
👥 3. Ensure All Speakers Are Captured Clearly
PractaLuma can handle two, three, four or more speaker transcription, but only if all speakers are clearly picked up.
Speak clearly, and avoid overlapping conversations.
Encourage clients to speak at a natural volume and pace.
If online, ensure all parties have stable internet and working audio devices.
⏺️ 4. Use the Recording Controls Wisely
During your session in PractaLuma:
Press “Record” when the session begins.
Use Pause if you need a break or move away from the mic.
When you're finished, press the Red Stop button.
If needed, you can replace the audio — but note this will delete the original recording permanently.
🧠 5. Transcribe and Review for Accuracy
After stopping your recording:
Click “Transcribe Audio”.
PractaLuma will convert the conversation into text.
Skim the transcript to ensure the conversation is accurately captured.
Common issues to check:
Misheard phrases due to low audio
One speaker’s voice missing or inconsistent
Overlapping dialogue that needs clarification
⚙️ 6. Advanced Tips for Better Results
Name the speakers aloud once at the start: e.g., “This is Dr. Lee and this is the client.”
Avoid fast back-and-forth replies that may blur together in transcription.
Use video integrations (Zoom, Teams — Pro users only) with auto-recording enabled for seamless capture.
