How to Notify Customers When Only Part of Their Order Is on Preorder?

PreOrder Now automatically switches a product to preorder when its inventory drops below one. But what if a customer orders more units than you have in stock?

For example, let’s say you only have 2 units left, but the customer orders 3. In this case, part of the order will ship now, and the rest will be on preorder.

To handle this smoothly, PreOrder Now includes a Partial Preorder Notice feature that:

  • Detects when the shopper’s order quantity exceeds available inventory.

  • Show a message on the product page to inform them that some of the items will be preordered.

How to Enable the Partial Preorder Notice

  1. Go to the PreOrder Now app in your Shopify admin.

  2. Go to Settings and click the Default tab.

  3. Scroll down to the Mixed Cart Warning section and enable this option.

  4. Customize the message.

  5. Click Save.

Once enabled, a clear message will appear on the product page whenever part of an order will be fulfilled via preorder.
