WHAT'S NEW - FEBRUARY 2020

By now, you’ve heard about Communities, our transformational approach to closing the gap between conversation & audience analysis, empowering you with the necessary tools to uncover audience segments in one click.

Well, that workflow has become even more seamless: starting today, you can access the Communities making up your conversation directly from Pulsar, and use them as filters on any of your searches.

You heard that right: in any conversation analysis, you're now just one tab away from isolating, segmenting and comparing your Communities of interest, without ever having to leave Pulsar.

Why is this important?

Communities 2.0 allows you to glean insights about your audience and their interests much faster, with quicker feedback loops between conversation setup, filters, and seeing who's in your audience.

How does it work?

From a new tab in the Audience section, aptly named Communities, you can go now and filter an audience down to a specific criteria, before segmenting that audience in Audiense.

Note
, you will need to have an Audiense subscription to access this functionality.

Once you hit Segment Authors, as shown above, your audience is then analysed and segmented into distinct Communities.

It typically takes a couple of hours to complete the analysis, depending on the size of the audience (more good news: in an upcoming release, you'll be able to get instant results!). You’ll get an email notification when your communities are ready to view on Pulsar where you can access them in the Communities tab, as shown below.

What information do I get?

For each Community found in a segmented audience, we will provide you with the following information:

  • Community name

  • Community size by number of users and by % of the total audience analyzed

  • Top Interests

  • Primary Gender

  • Primary Age Group

  • Primary Location

  • Unique Bio Keywords

  • Affinities by uniqueness (i.e. the most relevant and unique accounts among the members of this community)

And if you want to dive deeper, you can simply jump right back into Audiense, clicking on the Audiense logo at the top of each Community card or next to the report name.

This will take you straight to your Audiense dashboard. From here you can also:

  • rename each Community (segment)

  • rename your report

  • and add new Communities (segments) to that report.

Whatever changes you make in Audiense, these will automatically be reflected back on your Pulsar dashboard.

Comparing Audiences

One of the most powerful features in Communities 2.0 is the ability to compare different audiences and see how similar or different the audiences are by simply hitting the Compare drop down option, as shown below:

By being able to compare two audiences side by side, you can start to ask some pertinent questions, for example: What are the main communities in each audience? What is the demographic makeup of each audience? Do they have any interests in common? Are they most likely to follow the same accounts and media personalities? Etc.  Want to compare different communities rather than just the top ones? Easy, just click on the “Select Segments” dropdown, and select and unselect at will.

Rinse, Filter & Repeat

Getting to insight often requires going back and forth between your audience segmentation and conversation analysis, to try and tune out the noise, or to zoom in more precisely on certain communities.

Just click on “Segment New Audience”, apply really good filters to your conversation, and then segment again.

Keep in mind that the Audiense license you bought caps the number of the reports you can have at any given time: You can speak to your Account Manager to increase that if needed.

How do I access my previous Reports?

If you have previously done some audience segmentation prior to this new release, you will be able to access and view a snapshot of the Communities for each audience report by selecting the View Audiences drop down menu.

From here you can switch between audiences to view the Communities that have been identified in each segmented audience. Note that by default, we will always show you the very latest audience report.

If you have never segmented an audience before, then what are you waiting for? Speak to your Account Manager to talk through the subscription options available and get started on segmenting your very first audience!
