Different communities within an audience talk about the same topic differently. To enhance your audience insights, we offer the ability to segment your audience based on the communities identified in your Audiense reports.

In this article, you'll learn how to use the Communities subpage within the Audience Insights page in TRAC and how this can benefit you, but firstly let's get started on what communities are.


What Are Communities?

Communities are different groups within your audience that discuss the same topic but in their own unique ways. By segmenting your audience based on these communities, you can better understand and cater to the different interest profiles (e.g. football mums, tech journalists) of the people engaging with your content.

🚨 Important: You will need an Audiense subscription in order to use the Communities feature. If you don't have one, please contact your Account Manager.


How to Create Audience Segmentation Reports in TRAC

  • Go to Audience Insights > Communities in TRAC.

  • Click on "Segment Audience" in Pulsar. Pulsar then collects the X author IDs found in your search to generate your audience report.

πŸ“ Note: You can only create an Audience Segmentation report for less than 100K authors. If your search has more than this, consider filtering your dataset to focus on a particular location or language.

  • When your report is ready, you'll receive an email notification and be able to view the different audience segments that have been detected within the conversation that you're analysing.

  • From there, you will be able to click on "Existing Reports" to view any reports that have been created on your specific search.


Using Audience Segmentation Reports

There are two main ways that you can utilise Audiense Segmentation Reports.

1- Accessing your Audience Segmentation Report from the Communities subpage.

You will be able to view your Audience segments in a lot more detail within Audiense. In order to access this all you need to do is select the Audiense button either on the report itself or for individual Audience segments.

2- Using your Audience Segments as Filters within your TRAC Dataset

All created audience segments will be available as filters to apply across your dataset. Once in the Authors section of your filter, you'll have the ability to specifically examine various communities within your search. This helps you uncover the community-specific topics they're discussing within the context of your conversation, allowing you to have a better understanding of your audience.
