How do I set up or manage Caller IDs?

Learn how to view, manage and set up new virtual and Caller IDs based on real numbers in Raise More

Updated this week

A Caller ID is the phone number that appears on a recipient’s phone when a call is made. In Raise More, setting up a caller ID means linking a number that will be shown to donors when outreach is made using the integrated dialer. This adds clarity and legitimacy to your communication, ensuring donors recognize who is contacting them and are more likely to respond.

Having multiple caller IDs gives teams the flexibility to manage outreach more efficiently. You can assign different numbers to different campaigns, team members, or demographics, making your communication more targeted and professional. It also improves deliverability and response rates, as donors are more likely to engage when they see a familiar or relevant number.

Types of Caller IDs: Real vs. Virtual Phone Numbers

Using the right type of caller ID plays a major role in the success of your outreach. While Raise More technically supports both real phone numbers and platform-provided virtual numbers, not all options perform equally when it comes to deliverability and trust.

Your own or real numbers are generally not recommended for campaign use. These numbers often receive lower reputation scores under industry standards like STIR/SHAKEN, which are used by telecom providers to assess call legitimacy. As a result, calls made using real numbers are more likely to be flagged as “Spam Likely” or even blocked altogether. This can significantly reduce answer rates and limit the effectiveness of your outreach efforts.

Virtual numbers provided by Raise More are optimized for outbound campaign use and assigned higher reputation ratings, which improves call deliverability and reduces the chances of being flagged or blocked. That is why we strongly recommend not using your own or real numbers for outbound calling. Instead, we advise to use optimized and high reputation virtual numbers provided by Raise More. Choosing virtual numbers also helps maintain consistency, improves connection rates, and supports more reliable communication with donors.

How do I view and manage existing Caller IDs?

Hover the cursor over Settings in the left pane and click Caller IDs. The page will display a list of all Caller IDs as rows, while columns show important information related to each Caller ID, including:

  • Date Added

  • Phone Number (Caller ID the recipients see)

  • Type (Real or virtual phone number)

  • Phone Number to Forward To (Applies to virtual phone numbers for forwarding calls to another number)

  • Nickname (User defined name for a Caller ID)

  • Make default

  • Edit (Three-dot menu button)

You can make any Caller ID as the default for by clicking the Make Default link

The three-dot Edit menu allows you to rename a Caller ID and change the phone number to forward calls to.

How to set up a new Caller ID (Virtual number)?

To set up a new Caller ID, click the blue New Caller ID button at the top (Settings -> Caller IDs). Click Buy virtual number and enter the area code, the number to which you want to forward incoming calls to and a nickname (an easy to remember and recognize name). Enable “Set this as default caller ID?” to use the new number as the default Caller ID when calling donors (replaces the existing default Caller ID).

Click the blue Add Caller ID button at the bottom to register a new virtual number, which will appear in the list of Caller IDs once the process is complete.

How to set up a new Caller ID (Real phone number)?

Although not recommended, if you still want to use your own cell phone number to use as a Caller ID, click the blue New Caller ID button and select “Bring your own real number”. Enter the cell phone number and click the blue Verify button to start the verification process. The new Caller ID will be added to the list once the verification process is complete.

You can also set your own number as the default caller ID here, which will replace the existing default Caller ID, whether virtual or real number).

Setting up and managing caller IDs in Raise More provides flexibility and control over outbound communications. By using real or virtual numbers, teams can tailor their outreach to match the needs of different campaigns or donor segments. This not only improves call efficiency but also enhances credibility and consistency in communication.
